Oil Leak

Oil Leak
any ideas of where it can be leaking? I have a 04, leaks on the passenger side, oil on alternator and seems to travel up towards the hood. What exactly is on the right side of the motor that can leak oil? any help would be appreciated.

if it's a dark oily substance, it might be oil .. check your oil cap. normally oil on hood tends to be missing oil cap, incorrectly tighten, or defective cap
if it's red, might be your power steering hose, which is on recall for safety issue

Hey, definitely not the oil cap, and its oil, not the power steering. I would really like to know what components are on the right side (passenger) that can leak oil.

thanks for the response guys but its not the oil filter either. I have oil that travels up to the alternator area. are there any components by this area that can leak oil?

Valve cover gaskets can occasionally leak on many cars.
Oil won't travel upwards unless it is being splattered by the serpentine belt. If its dropping on the belt, then look closely in that area. The timing chain case is the most extreme passenger-side section of the engine and is between the pulleys and the engine itself.
Best bet would be to clean the area with a degreaser + water solution, dry it with a rag, and then start up the engine and see if you see oil coming from anywhere. There's your answer. If nothing is seen, wait a day or two and check it again.

Guys,
Thanks so much for the input. I thought it was the crank seal at first, as traveling on the serpentine belt does make alot of sense, but there is no sign of oil in and around that area. I will have to clean it as Curls states and see what i can find. I hope I can find the culprit to this very annoying issue as its leaving some spots on my GROUND !!

Put kitty litter on the existing oil spot(s) on your driveway. That'll soak most of it up. Then use cardboard under the car until you fix the problem.
