Non Functioning Navi

Non Functioning Navi
For a couple of weeks, my nav unit was acting strange. After the initial splash screen, the display would stay black from anywhere between 30 seconds and 15 minutes before it'd show the disclaimer that you have to hit "OK" for (yeah, I know there are mods around that lol).
Also, every once and a while the GPS would lose track of my location and never correct itself. I have an hour and a half commute one way, uncovered, so it has plenty of time to fix itself!
I'd go into the "secret" menu (by holding Map + Menu + Cancel) and run all of the various tests. They'd all pass.
However, on my way home last night this happened early into my drive home. This time, one test failed. GPS under the Navi ECU test failed with "NG". Switching to the GPS info page showed that it'd see a handful of satellites, then they'd suddenly disappear. This happened over and over. It never "locked" to any satellite, they all remained as "searching".
If I reboot the nav unit, it displays the splash screen, then the display goes black, and that's it. It still responds to the "Map + Menu + Cancel" menu and the same item under the same test fails.
The GPS antenna connection seems to pass, so I'm not sure what's up.
My guess is something needs to be repaired, but which component? Is the drive in the trunk just a drive or is it also the nav computer?

There isn't anyone I know with a 1G TSX /w navi near by.
I could try swapping the CD (I have the original maps CD), but I've been running the '06 maps since, well, 2006...so the problem being a software problem doesn't make sense...unless the CD got damaged somehow.
If the drive was having trouble reading the CD, wouldn't it display a read error (or something similar)?

I would call alpine and ask them what you need to send them for repair, or if there there may be some other fault.
