Noise During Acceleration

Hello,
I recently took my car into a national chain for an oil change. They also popped out my air filter and a/c filter to inspect them. Ever since then, when I accelerate quickly my car makes a 'farting' noise between 2500rpm's and 3000rpm's. It sounds kind of like those loud mufflers people put on Civics, but it's coming from the engine.

I took it back to the garage, but they were unable to find the source of the problem. I knew I wouldn't get satisfaction when I was making small talk with the mechanic and commented on how hot it was (95F). he said "Yeah, but it's not just the heat it the humility". Dang.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks.

Have you checked your air filter box to see if the air filter and the box is put back in properly? It could cause some noise if there are gaps around the seals..

Check to make sure the airbox lid is on tight. If you have an air leak around the filter you will hear the engine growl much more.

edit: supraken beat me to it.

The guy probably didn't put the air filter lid back on correctly.

Thanks

Everyone,
Thanks for your reply. I took a closer look and saw that the technician had sheered off one of the bolts that holds the cover on. I took it back and they are trying to get a replacement housing.

I took it in to Acura and they wanted $183.66 to replace it. Ouch. Jiffy is trying to source a replacement on their own.

Thanks again.

The guy who broke it was a caveman, not a technician ...

This is why I prefer to either DIY or go to the dealer.

For that price, see if they can find a Comptech Icebox lid. Its higher volume so you get better throttle response.

For the record, I had the same issue.. (was about to start topic) and I knew it was the filter. Ended up that the filter was turned upside down. Genious.

This happened to me as well. The stupid f---kers at Master's Auto in Houston sheared the damned screws (um, hello, isn't this an important part?). Plus, these yahoos also did not have the rubber vent/hose attached to the rest of the air intake. Brilliant! So we managed to fix it (this was in Feb. of '09), and the motorcycle-engine sound every time I pressed the accelerator went away. However, now I think I need to replace the whole box. I can DIY--it doesn't look too hard, and besides, I've already split my forehead removing all the bolts and pulling it out once, so what they hey, why not do it again? My engine is still louder than it used to be. I have a few other maintenance items that need to be taken care of, so I figured I'd replace the box all at once. It looks like I just need the top and bottom, which comes to about $130, plus tax. I'll check H and A, too.

Anyway, I just wanted to post about my stupid-shop-can't-do-its-job horror story. It's because of all those who posted about this before that I was able to point the dummies in the right direction.

Oh, I forgot to mention that they also destroyed my original oil drain plug gasket while screwing the plug back on and sent me home to leak a little oil in my garage. (This is supposed to be replaced each time; it's an 83-cent part for god's sake.) Sheesh.

I would try to learn how to do more of this DIY stuff, but my sig. other prefers that we do more fun stuff on the weekend. Besides, greasy fingernails is a look that totally doesn't work for me, especially since I'm a woman.

One weekend couldn't hurt. Just wear some rubber gloves and your hands will be fine. Mad respect to women who work on their own cars. Just my
