maf sensor....help
maf sensor....help
ok so i have a 2004 A/T with 111K on it...lately i notice that my car is eating so much gas to the point that im driving my MDX or if i had a v6 or something..i was thinking maybe by cleaning the maf sensor would help? if that dont work i would go with a fuel injector cleaner, if that dont work then change the 02 sensor or clean it. i do 90% highway and everything is stock. any ideas? and can someone tell me where the MAF sensor is located ? thanks in advance
Don't even know if there is an MAF sensor. If there was one and it was out of spec you would get a CEL. Lacking that, check the engine air filter and spark plugs. What have you changed lately that might have caused the poor fuel mileage, like new sticky tires?
hey thank you for that response and yes i got tires and the are kumo tires idk if that would be the issue..but i drive my GF 04 accord coupe and her car is def good in gas, i mean i do have rims 18" and tires are 235/40/18 and now the car is dropped but i had the issue way before the drop cna some one help?
well when i first started the thread i just replace the spark plugs my car now has 130k on it maybe things are getting old?...i mean the car runs good still like i love it...the only thing is the gas, and like i said i notice it more because i do drive my gf accord coupe 04 and i drive the same amount of distance withc is from here house to my house and her car seems to be so much better on gas..i honestly think is my rims though this is the one i have....

so at this point i just need to check my o2 sensor, how would i know if is bad?

Just a difference in wheel size would affect your spedometer, but not the miles per gallon if they're of similar weight. A lighter wheel could increase mpg while a heavier one would decrease mpg.
Do you have a lot of objects in your car that would make it heavier? Do you keep tires properly inflated?
If an O2 sensor actually fails, I believe it would cause a visible error code of some sort like a Check Engine light. If it's fail-ing, it may not yield an error code. They aren't expensive, and ours may not be difficult to find, though I've never looked for them.
Just thinking of things that are involved with mpg... it could be dirty fuel injectors or dirty valves. Fuel-additives can help remove build-up if it's not too bad.
Maybe the ECU is faulty. A proper fuel/air ratio is managed by the ECU, though it gets signals from sensors on how to do that.
Have you taken it to a shop/dealer to see if they'll assess the situation?

To get an 'official' idea of your mileage, do this when you fill your gas tank:
Write down your odometer mileage count and the number of gallons you add to fill the tank.
When you do it again, write these things down again. Then, subtract your updated mileage from the prior (which gives you the miles driven on the gas used, a.k.a. 'Trip') and divide it by the number of gallons you had to add to fill the tank.
If you're getting 26-31mpg, you're within what Acura described as the average miles per gallon for the TSX.

You really need to calculate the mileage often so you know if you have a problem or not. Comparing your mileage to another car without any numbers on either is a guessing game and you'll never know if you truly have a problem.
I calculate mine every time I fill up. I reset my trip computer to 0 at the gas station. Just divide the old number (before you reset the trip computer) by the number of gallons you just put in. Do that every time and you'll know when you have a problem.
CEL = check engine light

wow thats good, time to put my math to the test lol...but as far as taking it to the dealer i dont really like taking my car there because when i go i feel like the tech fight to work on the car and thats kinda a little scary for me...dont like random ppl working on my car and i specially that i cant see what their doing but i think if i really have to then i will
and i never ever got a check engine light or any other warning light on my car ither...to be honest the only thing that i had a problem with was my rear wheel bearings thats it...other than that i never had no AC problem or anyother issues i read about people having here...this is why i love the acura they ride good and that k24 engine takes alot of beating, good car i tell you def worht my money, and when i hit a 100k i was thinking that here comes all the problems but nothing major yet
