Loud ticking from engine
Loud ticking from engine
I noticed probably 3 weeks ago my engine is ticking very loudly, enough that I can hear it in the cabin and feel a slight shake in my wheel like a rough idle. It happens at any RPM including idle. I've never over-revved the engine but do redline pretty often 1-2 and 2-3, heck I don't even have Hondata so I can only go up to 7300.
Any idea what it is? I wouldn't think I'd have a bent valve, or bad sparks as I have only 20,000 miles. I'm going to take it in and get it checked out, it only became noticable since it got really hot out.

That was my first thought when I read your post.
Get a mechanic's stethoscope and point it to the cylinder head where each intake/exhaust runner meets the head while the engine is running. If the valves are loose, you can hear it very easily. Also, place the stethoscope on each fuel injector and see if the noises are from there, as they also make ticking noises. You can also place near anything that moves to track down the noise.

I talked to him for a while and he was very intelligent, so I could swallow that the sound wasn't out of spec, just the injectors being loud. The car drives great, pickup is good, powerband is normal and gas mileage is fine, the injectors are just being loud. He said to bring it back if the sound is getting worse and he'll check it again.
Anyone know anything about fuel injector cleaner?

JTSO might be able to chime in on this...where is he?!?!?!
Larger injectors controlled by the stock ECU will definitely have poor gas mileage and runs too rich. Just picture the ECU is programmed to fire the stock injectors for a certain duration and the amount of fuel injected is based on the injector size. If you replaced them with larger injectors and the same ECU is firing them for the same amount of duration, the engine will run rich.
Larger injectors are needed when runing FI setup but the ECU needs to be reprogrammed to trim back fuel during ide, or add fuel under boost condition. Otherwise, once the long term fuel trim (LTFT) has excessed a certain % of specification, it will trigger a CEL.
