Just picked up my TSX (5AT CG/EN Non-Navi) yesterday (first car, woot!).

Hate to sound totally dense, but I'm wondering what kind of rattling are we talking about?

I just want to start logging if and when the rattles do start happening.

Thanks!

Decided to drive my TSX today without the stereo on, even though I find that unbearable, the no stereo thing that is. I also drove exclusively in auto mode, another thing I find unbearable. The purpose of this was rattle detection. With no SS to do I was free to concentrate on listening to my car. I was a little apprehensive as to what I'd hear, since I never drive under those circumstances. I'm happy to report no rattles. Sorry for those that have them, but nothings rattling in my car.

Finally!

I previously reported a squeak that developed somewhere in the overhead console where the reading lights are located. This problem started when the car had barely 500 Kms!

Anyhow, finally brought it in to the dealer yesterday and the mechanic took it for a road test, but couldn't find the problem until i showed him exactly where it was.

The trim piece holding the overhead console was slighty ajar on the front RH side. He finally got to fix it and the car is now squeak and rattle-free. Hope it stays this way.

You can fix the moonroof yourself, just rub down the seals with a vynol protectant.

How old is this car? I thought for sure they had fixed the passenger door rattle at the factory by now.

On a more serious note, remember that people like to vent and people here in this site are but a small percentage of the many satisfied TSX owners out there.

Afterall, the warranty is there to take care of any problems.

god this sucks... my dash was rattling like mad when i started the car... when i brought it to the dealer, the rattling went hiding... shiat but good thing is, got my driver seat rails and my rattling moonroof taken care of...

as for the passenger door.... it was just the seatbelt banging its dickhead on the side of the passenger seat... damn moonroof... it must be too lonely up there to rattle like that, should've rubbed some indo oil on it and shut him up.

Rattle at the point where the windshield meets the dashboard on the passenger side. They put a piece of foam tape under there. Worked for a day, and the rattle is back. I'm thinking that the cold weather might have something to do with it!

Regarding the dash rattles, there are (at least) two types. The first is on the inside, where the dash rubs against the windshield. In my case, the dealer's insulating tape worked. The second is on the outside of the car, and has to do with the windshield cowling or cowl cover (rubber that covers the bottom of the windshield), which seems to be worse in cold weather. To diagnose if this is your problem, try wetting the cowling and see if the sound goes away -- mine did. So I added some weatherstripping material underneath, just where the cowling meets the windshield, and it seems to have fixed the problem.

I have right at 5k miles and still no rattles. I did Dynamat the rear doors and deck on the speaker upgrade project. However, I am not having the dash, roof, or front door rattles reported by some board members.

Rattles

i just hit the 650 mile mark and the dash is starting to get creaky. I've read that it seems to be acommon problem, so I hope the dealer knows how to fix it.

I've got a few rattles myself.

1. Driver and passenger side door rattles, goes away with windows cracked or down, annoying as hell with the windows up.

2. Had a rattle in the shift gate of my 6MT. Partially fixed once by relubing and adjusting the clutch cables. Completely fixed when they found a broken retaining clip in the shifter itself and replaced the whole assembly.

3. Little bit of a rattle from the moonroof when closed and over rough pavement (any kind of bumps)

4. Drive seat base is loose, going to be fixed Wednesday, dealer is replacing the seat base claiming the bolts got f'd up.

The only rattle I have is in the passenger door. I hear it with the stereo playing and while traveling on some of the ruff paved TX highways. I can sometimes reach across and push on various parts of the passenger door to quite the buzzing.

The dealer said that the fix is to install an in-line bass reducer for the front speakers. I don't see how this solves the noise I hear when I am driving and I doubt it would improve an already above avg stereo. I'm going to give them one more chance before I fix the problem.

Everything else with the car is great!

Had rattles but the dealer fixed it. I can still hear a slight rattle when the moonroof cover is open but if it's close, no noise.

Post Still NO rattles

7200 miles and still no rattles.

During my speaker upgrade, I added 2 layers of Dynamat Extreme to the rear doors. I added 4 layers on the majority of the front doors. I also added 1-2 layers throughout most of the trunk to deaden some of the Comptech exhaust noise.

I did not have rattles before, and I do not expect rattles now.

I just turned 20,000 miles and only hear the door rattles in temps over 80 degrees (very hot days). There was no rattle over the winter months or in any temps below 80.

I usually do the same thing as mentioned earlier, where I slightly crack the passenger window and the door rattle disappears. I haven't heard it in my drivers side door in months, but it seems more prevalent in the passenger side door.

Are there any true fixes yet? I am real hesitant to bring it to my dealer to address, unless there is a known way to fix it. It seems to be the metal strip (on both doors).

Can they add any weight to it? It seems to be too light and thin and vibrates like a football player on the old vibrating football game. You would think if they added more density to it (weight or fill in the back side more), it would alleviate most of the rattle.

Just rolled over 1000 miles. No rattles yet. Still a few creaks and pops from the moonroof when up (not open) over rough pavement.

I didn't realize how awful Dallas streets were until I got the TSX!!

Lightbulb Part numbers for door rattles

My TSX has been in the shop for a total of 51 days since I bought it new last July. I feel the need to share some of the "fixes" the dealer has made on the infamous door rattle/window whistle/dash rattle. I hope it helps.

To fix the whistling from the drivers door (Successully) they replaced the following parts:
72325-SEA-003 (L & R FR) Front door seals
76250-SEC-A21ZD (Mir. L DR. NH6) Special order Mirror

To fix the door rattle (so far so good after 3rd attemp)
72325-SEA-003 (see above whistle)
81536-SDA-A71 (Frame L FR)
77241-SECA00ZA (panel B DR NH)
72275-SEA-003 (Channel L. FR)
72375-SEA-003

To fix the dash rattle (So far unsuccessful...please, someone give me some information)
80530-SDAA41 (Sensor assy)
77710-SEC-A11ZA (Holder NH515L)
83558-SEC_A02ZB (LNG L FR NH)
77241-SEC-A00ZA (PAnel B DR NH)

Re: Part numbers for door rattles

I have a dash rattle. I thought it was the crossover for the right speakers, but I glued that down, and it doesn't move anywhere. I'm thinking maybe the tweeter wire and plastic adaptor (stock) is bouncing under the dashboard; but I have no way to reach that one.

It's annoying. I'm sure the dealer will say they can't reproduce it, or claim it's the audio shops' fault.

My experience has been isolated to the rear right side passenger door. It had a very light infrequent rattle that comes and goes. The dealership has been very nice about continously housing my car and working on it. I have had a loaner when it was in the shop. You actually have to concentrate to hear it. Or should I say be listening for it? Only hear it on unsmooth roads. Its so minor that it makes it all the more irritating. I feel like I am an Acura engineer trying to fine tune that last item on a production ready car that is otherwise flawless. Anyway, they have fixed it once now. Now that are at it again, this time...they said its a rear right side strut that is not performing its function to cushion the ride and instead creating a rattle on the right rear end of the car. I hope this fixes it for good. This is the only rattle I have had and the dealership says this the only car they have worked on for such issues. However, I have a tsx loaner these days, and the loaner is full of rattles. Rattles in loaner tsx: Front driver's window, rear right passenger door, rear view mirror, right side sunshade blocker. Other than that it always drives like a dream as do all TSXes!~

Update on my TSX:
As you all know, there's some problem with the grease or lubricated fillers in the doors that Acura installed at factory. Anyway, I took everything i could possibly find related to noises/rattles from the TSX---stuff other ppl and/or their dealers tried.....possible fixes, etc and copied it. I then pasted it to an e-mail and sent it to my acura technician+service rep. They found the info helpful. My rattle problem is finally fixed!~

Please
I like to have that list, and keep it in the glove box.
So the next time I have rattles, I can show it to my dealer.

I also just had both the front door panels replaced, the noise is gone for now.

But like another TSXer stated...they did the same thing for me.
And a little later the noise came back.
I want be prepared if this happens to me.

Any help the mechanic can get can help them pin point the issues.
I know I would be glad , if a TSX owner provide a list like this to me..if I was the noise fixer.

Great job…that’s another way to get this issue resolved.

I'm at about 1200 miles and no rattles to report yet. However, I have heard a slight buzzing sound coming from the driver's side door in the vicinity of the door lock (just behind my left ear) over certain patches of rougher than usual pavement. Not sure exactly where it's coming from yet.

Driver's front seat belt retractor rattles since almost day one.
Also rattles in lower parts of both front doors. Just passed 10K and about 9 months.

I just think the TSX wasn't designed to roll on seventeens.

Gonna see what I can get done by the dealership (yeah, right) before I upgrade the audio and have to go into the doors...

First off, I see no one complaining about the seat belt retractors. The driver's seat belt retractor buzzes right in my ear, and it seems to do it more when at the top of its adjustment travel. You taller TSX owners, any seat belt retractor noise?

Second... Notice lots of people talking about Dynamat. Dynamat works ~ok~... but it has two major shortcomings in my experience in my own and other people's cars:

1) It's really heavy (it's based on asphalt!)

2) In warm weather the inside of your car smells like a hot-mop roofing project.

I used Dynamat to quiet my 86 Isuzu Trooper years ago. Worked great, smelled awful for weeks, and again when summer came.

I highly recommend VibraBloc from Cascade Audio Engineering. It's lighter (vinyl-based), and doesn't smell. The test results say that it works better than Dynamat - I can't say that I've noticed a difference per sheet, but per pound that is definitely true. It's easier to work with in some ways, but you want to get it HOT with a heat gun as you aply it - and then it ain't coming off.

Their website is cascadeaudio.com, but you'll have to find a dealer - they don't seem to sell direct. It's all over the internet though.
