LED dome trouble

Anybody have any tips or pointers.....I ordered three Super High Flux 6-LED festoons in white, 10x31mm. 1 for each map light and one for the rear dome. The map lights went in fine, granted they are a snug fit, but they are angled toward the driver and passenger side respectivly, but the rear dome I just can't get. I can get it in, but it's slightly angled toward the right side of the car (passenger front seat side) and when I get it in like that, it lights up, but only 5 of the 6 led's light up....I'm assuming since it isn't in all the way.

Anyone install these exact lights in there dome? If so , did you notice it was harder than the 2 map lights? Any pointers or suggestions would be greatly apprecieated.

Yes, its much harder than the 2 map lights. I bent both clips down a bit, angling them a bit to create more room. Then, when I re-installed the plastic piece, the LEDs were touching it, but it all still goes together. (with some force).

So I have to bend those two clips down a bit? It seems like when I've tried to put in the lgiht, I can get one side in , but the other won't go in at all, as it's such a tight fit.

So basically, bend the clips apart a bit, and try to bend it down alittle to at the same time? Just making sure, thanks for replying bro!

Bump. I'm having the same problem. I installed my 6LED white map bulbs and they are amazingly bright. But that rear dome won't go. Reach, when you say to bend the clips down, do you mean to pull them down towards you a bit? I'm afraid to break either the assembly or the bulb (although I may have already broken the bulb as only 3 of its 6 LEDs seem to be lighting upon contact now).

Is the map light the same light as the one by the sunglasses? I have halogen looking LED in there now but i want to make it super white- is this a difficult process to take off that piece and install a super white?

thanks

I didn't really have much trouble installing mine.
it's real hard to get a clear picture right now, but the one
in the back dome light sits flush, not angled.
it doesn't hit the cover or anyting either. It wasn't too hard
to get in there either, just pushed it up in.

The ones in the map lights are each angled towards the
seats because they have to be, but the one in the back is
sitting perfectly level, with a tad bit of clearance even around
the LED.

I have LED's in all interior lights, trunk and in the plate lights.
So far so good, they're super bright and much, much nicer than
the stock lights. I'll keep trying to get a picture of that back bulb...

I never got the rear one in, I gave up. The front two are still going strong though.

Okay, here's the best I could do with pics of the rear one:

Sorry they suck in quality, but you get the idea.

Hold the lights by the metal parts, don't touch the bulbs much at all.
Line it up perfectly in the center.
Press equally on both sides, straight up.
Should snap right in, mine did.

I didn't have to bend anything or alter anything, just snapped right in.
It works perfect too, these bulbs are great, super bright and clear.

I actually snapped it in easily twice. The first time I had the polarity
wrong, so I had to take it out and put it in the other way. I've had
to do that with every LED so far. I just always guess wrong at first...

That's the thing. It doesn't snap in. When I hold the bulb by the metal parts, the board the LEDs are mounted on is wider than the space between the metal brackets in the car. It physically will not fit. Maybe 08 has more space there.

hmmm...

well, yeah, maybe it's a model year thing.

I guess in your case, I would try to bend or modify something.
I'd try to force the two metal parts away from one another by a
couple of mm's so that the light could fit.

A good hard press with your fingers could work...
maybe.

bummer, these lights are great.
maybe this is what they mean by "a few slight modifications for the new model year." ?

Those bulbs are AWESOME for the front map lights as REACH recommended from his previous thread.

I have those bulbs and they are bright and white.

I think for the rear dome , you should get the smaller LED bulbs.

Thanks for posting the pictures. It does look like the newer LEDs are slightly bigger b/c I couldn't get it in unless I use some extra force and I'm not exactly sure what the threshold is for the housing. I really don't feel like replacing the whole compartment.

I'll try again tomorrow morning and hopefully I have the same luck as you had.

It's quite possible that I pushed fairly hard.
I don't have any concern really with pushing them in with too much force.
As long as it's lined up correctly you'll be fine.
I really doubt you'll break the housing or anything trying to
pop the bulb in. Don't quote me on that though...

I've put a ton of these festoon 6 high flux LEDs into our three cars (two Honda, one Acura). I had one, just one, that wouldn't fit in any socket in any car - the circuit board was just a wee bit too wide. The fix was to grind away a little bit of board on either side of the cylindrical metal contact, just enough to let the clips get around the contact.

Hey, that's a good idea, didn't think of that.

What if the LED itself is made too wide?

Take out both of the ones in the map lights and see if both of them
are too wide. Maybe just the light itself was made a bit too wide.

If not, then I guess you'll need to buy one of those 9 LED ones that
aren't as bright for the back...

I had no trouble at all swapping out my rear dome light for the LEDs on my '06. The new one went in just as easily as the old came out.
