High pitched screeching/scraping noise from wheels
I have a 2004 AT with 59000 miles, and I'm starting to get a weird, high-pitched, screeching/scraping noise that's coming from my driver side wheels when I'm driving, and occurs mainly when I'm hitting bumps in the road or when I'm making right turns. I'm not using the brakes when it occurs, and seems to happen around 30+mph. I'm definitely hearing it because when cars go by or if you're on a road with concrete barriers, you can hear the screeching noise reflect off the objects. I also swerved the car left and right and you can hear the scraping noise from when the car leans left. I checked the wheels and I didn't see any noticeable damage, and i checked the tires and they seem OK to me. I've searched other threads, and people seem to have had similar problems, but sometimes the noises they describe are more whirring, or some sort of squeaking noises, and it seems to be the case that this could be either a wheel bearing issue or a brake issue. Anyone have any insight into this? I'm going to call the dealer tomorrow and schedule an appointment to check it out and I'll let you all know what happens.

^ Could be the breaks - I had the same thing happen to me but it went away after a day and never came back. I don't know what it was but I haven't had the same problem twice... I think it was something with the brakes but who knows... that's where i'd start personally as they make the most noise when somethings wrong with them

it can be debris stuck inside a wheel. see some brake cleaner and see if the problem still persist. if it's bugging you that much. i suggest taking off wheel, caliper and rotor to help identify the problem. it may also be your suspension. try to isolate when you hear the problem and identify the conditions when the squeak appears to help narrow down the search.

I appreciate the suggestions, thank you I've tried brushing whatever debris from the wheels I could possibly find, and that didn't seem to help. I drove to work this morning, and it sounds like a metal screeching noise and it was definitely apparent as i made a right turn and the body leans to the left. I made an appointment for tomorrow, so we'll see how it goes. I'm not exactly mechanically inclined to jack the car up and take the wheel off, though. :P

This happened to me right before Labor Day weekend.. it's a scary sound.. sounds like metal scraping along metal.
It happened when i pulled out of a parking spot at a mall in NJ. I didn't think it was me at first (no way my car could be making such a ear piercing horrible noise!) but as drove past some concret barriers and other parked cars.. I realized it was coming from my left front wheel area.
the sound was always there, no matter what speed I was traveling. Didn't matter if my foot was on the brake or not, nor did it matter if I was making a turn or not... Car drove and stopped okay, just the horrible noise.
I crawled along to a local Acura dealer they were closed (friday afternoon before a holiday weekend) so I decided to try a local brake shop of sorts.. but as I was backing out from the Acura dealer.. the noise all of a sudden stopped and hasnt' returned since.
I've had it checked out afterwards and could no identify the cause..everything looks fine, plenty of pad life left.. no harm done to the rotors...So i'm guessing it was a phantom pebble or something that got caught in the brake/caliper assembly.

So i went to get my car serviced...It looks like it was the brakes, the wear indicators were sort of even with the pads..I'll try to take pictures of the old brakes when I get home.
So, $175 to replace two rear brake pads.
I always thought that you'd only hear the indicators when you're applying the brakes, not when you're driving around. But ah well, things seem like they're back to normal again.
Thanks all for the suggestions!

Aw, damn it. I had this noise occur randomly in July and then again in September (and went away by itself quickly both times) so I'm guessing my front brakes are shot. I'm due for an oil change anyway, so I can get it done then.
Still... definitely not psyched at the prospect of the expense!

Yeah, if I only had more time, the right tools, and some knowledge to work on my daily driver, I would probably do them myself, but it's always good to budget in every month on stuff like car maintenance...you never know when things happen!

Here are some pictures of the worn brake pads. I'm guessing the tab in the first picture is the brake wear indicator.

Hi Guys im new to this site, but im glad i found it because i am an owner of an 05 Acura TSX. I bought it with 20K miles, and it now has 53K miles. Yesterday as i was driving out of a parking lot i noticed this high pitched screaching noise coming from what appeared to be my back driver side tire. Now i have rims on my car, not the stock ones, and ive had em on for about 3 months now. I thought it could be them but i figured it would have dont it to all 4 tires. By reading this thread now it could appear to be this indicator problem. Any idea how much the cost is and if warranty covers it....
Thank You!
Thank You!

Well the final resolution!!!
I went to Acura today and replaced my brake pads in the rear! they were at 2mm.. so i switched em out for 160.00
The guy said that my rotors were good but then said i should resurface them haha! any suggestions! i think he just wanted more money cause with a resurface it would cost 280.00

Replacing front brakes on my 207k 06 TSX
Did not stop the screeching, which is exactly the same as another poster reported: I can hear it when I'm turning and when I'm tracking straight. Going over bumps yields a chattering version of the noise. It's not constant - comes and goes.
