Front (Right) SRS Harness/Sensor needs to be changed???

Can anybody give me any information on this? The dealer wanted to charge me an insane amount of money, they told me 20 hours of labor at $98 an hour. So I told them to just order the part which was about $130 and I would get it taken care of. It is the harness that runs from the inside SRS control unit to the outside. Any info or tips would be more than greatly appreciated. I am also aware that after I change this harness my SRS light may still be on meaning that I need a new control unit, but I guess I will cross that bridge when I get there. Thanks everybody!!!

How many miles do you have?

I would check the warranty like bz268 said.
I would maybe try another dealer if they are giving you the run around.

...And if you end up doing this install, order the part from an online Acura dealer and get yourself a Helms Electrical manual. Good luck.

My car was in an accident about a year ago, and according to the dealer, the sensor is no good. It has to be changed, but you can't just change the sensor, they said you have to change the whole harness?

that doesn't make sense. I know that the sensors/control units need to be changed if an airbag deploys. but I've never heard of the harness having to be changed. the harness should just be wires. it would take alot of trouble shooting, but you could test out the harness to make sure that all paths are flowing electricity correctly.

well the reason they told me that I have to change the entire harness was because they said you cannot just change the sensor on the end of the wires. They said it was illeagal to splice those wires?

that really doesn't make sense. either the harness is part of the sensor, ie They are physically attached and removed with the sensor. or the harness is a group of wires that has two connectors, one on each end.

If the harness is just a group of wires with two connectors, and there was a defect with the harness that would mean that there was a broken wire somewhere in the harness. then it would have to be replaced. Then you would need to replace the wire harness.

if the harness was part of the sensor, connected to the sensor with no way to remove it, then it would have to be changed as it is part of the sensor.

if it is part of the sensor and it was replaced after your accident then there is a defect with the sensor. Otherwise it means that someone didn't do their job and cheated when replacing the sensor or didn't replace the sensor at all.

I'm more willing to bet that it could be a problem with the control unit itself than a stand alone, 2 connector, harness.

it almost sounds to me like they're trying to make some money off of you by replacing things that don't need to be replaced.

I never accept the answer that if this doesn't work then we're going to charge you to replace something else to see if it's that. they will keep replacing shit until you run out of money. tell them that if they replace it and it's not the problem then you want a refund for all labor/parts because they weren't competent enough to properly diagnose a problem.
