Cool FIX: Door Rattle

Hello,

I have pin-pointed the source of one of my numerous rattles. I also have a simple fix for it. Behind each door-opener handle there is a plastic insert that covers a screw. The insert is cosmetic.

This URL shows the cover:

http://www.acuraparts247.com/sunnysi...All&vinsrch=no

It is labeled:

7
11

(Look in the lower right of the figure.)

You can simply remove the cover to elimiate the rattle. Another option, which is what I plan to do, is to simply put something under the cover such as foam or paper to prevent the vibration. Viola, one less rattle.

Thank you to everyone who is posting ratle fixes. My dealer "cannot replicate" any of them. However, they are my constant companions during my drive to/from work. I definitely think that cold weather is making them worse. My dealer looked at my car during the mid-day.

Good luck!

Joe Kotran

P.S. Am I the only one who finds it ironic that Acura is telling us to "let the dealer handle" our rattle problems. There is a funny scene in the movie Gung Ho in which the employees at the auto plant ignore assembly mistakes. They say "let the dealer handle it" rather than slow down the production line!

Driver's Door Rattle

OK, not sure if this is the same door rattle or not, but several have mentioned about a door rattle that occurs with certain types of music (lots of bass) is played.

Well, I figured out what is rattling with mine and it "ain't" the door panel or anything behind it... Its the power window switches...

I was in the process of taking the door panel apart to find this rattle however I then realized that if I lightly touch the window switches, the rattle goes away...

So in my opinion, its not really a big deal however I may disassemble the switch assembly to see if there is something that can be done to reduce or eliminate the rattle...

Bottomline for me is that this does not make the car cheap... There are some simple quirks here and there that need to be addressed long term by Honda but I am going to do my best to resolve them on my own...

For others who have this problem, check it our for yourself. When you hear the rattle, lightly place you fingers on the switch and chances are the rattle will be gone...

Hope this helps.

I have definitely isolated the Buzzing Rattle from Bass. It is incredibly dumb. The speakers for the TSX DO NOT screw into place. They snap in. I discovered this during a recent speaker upgrade. While the panel was off, I played a CD of mine that alwas causes the buzing rattle. By pressing against the speaker, the buzz went away. Litterally the speaker buzzies the door metal door fram to the point that the door lock and anything else remotely loose will vibrate!!!.

I would imaguine that by placing foam behind the spaker to "tighten" the snap would resolve it. For me, replacing the original speakers with Alpine SPS-170A (a good fit by the way, and properly screwing them in has not only increased my bass perfomance, but has also eliminated the rattles induced by the factory speakers.

I hope this helps some others out there.

Unhappy Rattle, Both From Doors, No Solution

My rattles are coming from the ends (towards the rear of the car) of the metal trim on both front doors. Minor vibrations af any kind, CD, AM radio, truck going by cause these to rattle annoyingly. 2 trips to dealer have NOT YET resolved. One saying NTF and other saying the don't have a solution yet! Can anyone point me in the right direction? This is a DAILY annoyance and I have been trying to avoid the issue, but it is a P.I.T.A! Any suggestions or solutions from others would be appreciated. Thank You!

Same story. My rattles also seem to be around rear of the trim or the door locks. The dealer in Orlando put some foam tape in the door. It reduced it, but it's still there. So now they say I'm using too much bass on the stereo. But it rattles without the stereo even turned on!

I sent a letter to Acura Customer Service about the problem and the dealer. Their response: "We talked with your dealer, and they say you're using too much bass"... So they're useless!

I finally talked with a local Honda dealer and asked if the new Accords have the problem. He said Accord doors are notorious for it too, and Honda still hasn't found a fix for it.

I had no door rattles to start with, but I did put quite a bit of Dynamat onto the door panels on speaker upgrade projects. If you ever take the panel off, I would have several sheets of Dynamat handy and install it yourself.

That would probably be better than most dealer efforts anyway. I know the stuff is somewhat expensive and cumbersome to install, but I have it in all the doors, the rear deck, and most of the trunk. It does help. The doors definitely have a thunk when you close them and road noise was decreased, well, until I installed the Comptech exhaust.

I also put Dynamat in the part at the door handle described in the first post, no rattles here even with the bass turned up.

I have only one rattle coming from the right front door. Either in the seat belt housing, or the speaker is causing the entire lower door panel to rattle but I found this on another TSX forum. They have a fix for front door rattles that came from Honda in Japan. I will bring it up to the dealer tomorrow, and hopefully they can order the new part (some rubber sub-seal). Part #72325-SEA-003

BTW my first post here.

My rattles started when the dealer removed my driver side door panel to fix a shorted door switch Ever since then, I'm getting the same noise at the door lock area near the rear of the door. It rattles over grooved pavement, minor road bumps, or when I play a song that has some deep bass. I find if I put pressure on the arm rest or roll the window down a little it goes away.

FYI, I've made 3 trips to the dealer. One, the replaced the speaker (which sounded fine to me), and the other two they tried to isolate the problem but it's still around. I guess I'll have to take matters into my own hands with some dynamat ( ) in and around the door panel.

Anyone know of any instructions on how to remove the door panel? I don't want to do any more damage than may have already been done.

Today I followed "jkotran" method and reduced my rear left door rattle near locking area. Thin foam under the screw cap solved it, thanks! One less area I have to think about when I hear something more...

Well, I brought my car to the dealer a total of 4 times, and the last time they dynamatted the driver and passenger door. The problem is better, but the door panel still rattles.

Sigh, guess the last resort is doing it myself. But at least the dealer was very helpful in trying to get the problem resolved. They really did try.

Talking RATTLES

Used this QuietCar spray, one can on each door and door panel. About three coats each door panel. Problem SOLVED. It's awesome stuff! Made by Quiet Solution, Inc. http://store.yahoo.com/quietcoat/qu20can.html

And how much did you have to pay for the Dynamat, if any?

Thanks!

Cost me $59 for a door kit through Crutchfield. Had enough for both front doors with some left over. Sadly, like I said, it didn't fix my problem. I think the rattle must be within the actual inner door moulding somewhere where it's not visible.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I just wanted to let my fellow TSX owners know that my 05 has been experiencing this same rattle. My girlfriend was driving the car last night and it gave me an opportunity to pinpoint the rattle to the aforementioned plastic inserts covering the inside door handles.

She and I are going on a road trip soon, so I wanted to eliminate all the rattles I could before we leave. I hadn't even found this thread prior to doing my fix, but I did the same kind of thing as jkotran mentioned -- I took some self-adhesive felt (the kind you get from Home Depot for putting under furniture) and cut out 4 pieces in the shape of the cover (but just a bit smaller), adhered them to each cover, and put them back on. Voila! Rattles gone.

Also, yesterday I took care of the odd rattle that I get from the OEM skirt kit. Someone had mentioned putting hose washers between the side skirt and the mounting point to eliminate the odd rattle that occurs on windy days at high speeds. (Refer to this link: Rattle at high speed) That one too seems to have worked.

Now if I could just get rid of the rattle from the rear deck, I'll be all done!

Thanks to all the people on this forum that contribute their findings and fixes. You guys/gals are a great help.

The rattle under your rear deck could very well be a spot weld on the crossmember -- I recall a few others having this problem in their cars and fixing them with a shim or even just tapping the area with a hammer.

Run a search, but hopefully this helps you find and fix the rattle before your trip!

Bon voyage!

if it's the spot-weld rattle/pop, you can also spray wd-40 liberally onto the crossmember.

did this last year, and not a noise since...
