Favorite ATF fluid?

I'm doing a flush and at ~64k.

What fluids do you guys use? Anything i should watch out for? I did not see a DIY.

(I did a search of TSX ATF and didn't see much, but will delete if this thread isn't needed.

Thanks!!

Getting the right ATF fluid is pretty critical, I had Acura do it. It wasn't that expensive, cheap peace of mind.

Ok,,thanks. I'm assuming they use some uber expensive Honda brand ATF?

I have had (and have) many honda bikes. The fluids they spec out in the manuals are aways 3x the price of their equal.

I don't think you'll save that much. You can buy the Honda brand on line also. I just had then replace the tranny fluid after I felt a strang shift from the tranny. It cost $60 or so. Haven't had a problem since.

Also I'm sure Acura will not honor any warranty claims if you don't use their fluid. May not be applicable to you but I heard Acura gave extended warranties on some model year trannies.

Don't do flush, just drain/refill. Use Honda ATF DW-1. Honda ATF Z1 is acceptable also.

+1 and no flush. The correct way to change the fluid (it's messy, wasteful, expensive, and the only practical way to do it) is to drain and refill 3 times. I drive the the car around the block between drains (leave the underbody cover off for this and don't fit a new drain plug washer until you re-install it after the last drain). I'm aware that all manufacturers specify their own fluids and their use is not always necessary, but when it come to Honda automatics, don't fool around with anything else, use Honda ATF (and all the dealers should have the new stuff by now). It's runs about $9 a bottle, and you'll need 9 (plus the new washer). Oh, and if someone had a dealer do it and it wasn't that expensive, I can guarantee you that they did a single drain and refill.

Is it necessary to get a new washer each time the drain plug is removed? What are the consequences for not changing it?

This is a good question, but since the cost is minimal, and the consequences if it leaks:

Remove the under body cover (second time), remove the drain plug (dumping most of the last fill of new fluid), put a new washer on the drain plug and re-install it, refill the fluid, re-install the under body cover. Aside from the cost, just the thought of R&R ing that friggin under body cover is reason enough to not take a short cut. Plus, if the drain plug is leaking, how much fluid will you lose before you realize what's happening, and for how long will you drive with low fluid? Seems like a no brainer to me.....
