Damage caused by dealer service dept.

Ok, so I recently went to the Acura dealer to have my center console replaced due to the lights behind all the accessory buttons not coming on (there is a thread on this, and is a common problem supposedly). Anyways, I get my car back and I just noticed that the silver trim above my glove compartment has a noticible scratch on it. Are the dealers liable for scratches they make when removing/installing parts under warrenty?

Oh and they stole all my spare change...Not cool

It all depends on the dealer - of course they should be liable for the damage - but can you prove it and will they do anything about - you'd have to ask.

Never leave anything valuable in the car.

The solution to this problem - do the work yourself.

Maybe they had to dump the change as a result of ripping out the console and forgot to put it back in. Where was your change, and is that something that has to get removed when the console comes out?

Same thing happened to me when I was swappin out the tranny.

HERE'S THE KEY: Take the time to fully inspect the car before you take it off the lot. Once you take it off the lot, the dealer will just conclude that it happened after you drove off.

Yeah I had to get my entire center console (radio and HVAC) system removed and replaced. Well I'm going into the dealer today and going to see what they say. Let you know what happens.

Oh, and as far as the spare change thing goes. I wasn't mad at all about that, actually just kinda laughed it off b/c I remember friends of mine that used to work in valet telling me stories of how they could make an extra 10 bucks a night by taking spare change. Yeah so I didn't get upset about that until I saw the scratch in my silver trim. That done got me mad.

Hey so did you end up getting the damage fixed? or did they try saying it wasn't their fault?

No, my dealer in So Cal is definitely one of the nicest I've been to. They fixed it with no questions asked.

Ok so I went in and showed them the damage. The service guy acted really surprised that one of his people would leave a scratch like that and give it back. So he told me to call next week and make an appointment to come in and he'll have his trim guy come in to fix it up.

He was so cool about it that I didn't even mention the spare change. Only bad part is I might have to leave the car there for a day and get a loaner....last time i got an automatic TSX and those things have no juice (sorry if i offended anyone). Maybe I'll opt for the rsx.

Uh-Oh,

Seriously though, I also drove the Auto TSX as a loaner for nearly two weeks and I thought they were fine--in terms of speed and power.

After getting my console replaced I found some scuff marks next to the upper storage compartment and some small pry marks on the silver trim. At the next oil change I let the service department know about it. They replaced the silver trim (though it did take a few visits because they ordered the wrong part). As for the scuff marks, the best that I can tell they sanded the plastic all the way into the passenger side foot well. It has a much different texture then it did before. I am going to see how it wears for a few months. If it gets scuffed easier then before, I will ask them to replace it.

They jazzed my dash up pretty bad when I had the radio replaced.

I showed them right away and they were really cool about. They appologied up and down and gave my a new TL as a loaner. That thing had plenty of juice!

They also did some "repair" work. I would have prefered replacement of all pieces, but it looked really good, so I let it slide.

I feel all your frustrations. I recently had my car in for warranty work for my driver and passenger seats because the leather was cracked (I only bouth the car in July). I'll say this, the leather, or whats leather in the TSX is some of the worst, poorest quality leather in any premium car I've came across, but thats another thread. They ordered and replaced the panels, than I get the car back and to my utter horror, there is a gouge, not a scratch, but a gouge about 6 inches long on the side of the center counsel from top to bottom. Also grease stains that could not be recoved no matter what on the seats (I have the tan interior model. Not to mention that they also changed out the emblems (I have the gold emblems on a pearl white car-not as bad loking as some make it to be) because they were delamanating and I get the car back with all the masking tape still on the trunk where it was used as a marker to ensure its on straight. Added to that the driver side rocker panel is all scratched. Called the dealer immediatly after that and was probably not the most polite person on the phone. Brought it back the next day where they tried to remove the stains and in the process made it a whole lot worse. Said they tried to scrub it off with various cleaning compounds to no avail. Now instead of a big black blotch, its pinkish-gold. So now, they have to replace the seat panels again, but now also the center counsel and the rocker panel. If I was the service manager, I would have had the technicians fired, because now instead of doing one thing right, they botched it up and have to replace MORE things. Dont get me wrong, the Acura here on Oahu (Pflueger Acura) have great people working for them, and the service manager was extremely apologetic and nice. But makes me wonder, if Acura is realy vying to be on par with Lexus, et al, than how this utter sloppiness was allowed to happened. My wife and I were looking at the IS300 as well, but that craptastic interior as well as a few other things led us to the TSX. But I highly doubt a Lexus dealership would have given a customer back a car with such obvious damage. Frustrating to say the least. At least all the years I've been dealing with them (this is my third Acura) they never stole anything out of the car. I don't think they'd want to steal any of my CDs either (I always leave them in) unless there's a hardcore metalhead there!

it is very important for everyone to build a good rapport and relationship with a dealership's service advisor. he is the king and he is the one who decide "warranty or charge to customer". i go to weir canyon acura in anaheim, calif all the time. and have loaners. all otehr acura dealers just want money and no loaners.

Yeah i went to Pohanka Acura in Chantilly. They were pretty cool about things once I pointed out the damage, but its just the fact that they scratched up my car in the first place pisses me off. I mean they must have special tools to minimize the scratch marks when taking off the trim, but to leave such noticable marks is unacceptable to me.

Oh and my other complaint with Pohanka, which I guess they can't really control, is that they are so swamped by cars in the service department its hard to get someone's attention. Plus I just moved out here from Chicago, so I didn't even buy the car from them so I'm always paranoid they don't give me the treatment I would had I bought it from them.

Yeah I am still having issues with Pohanka in Chantilly, they are a horrible dealer in my opinion. No one seems to know what is goin on the service dept, many times they don't have record of my car or that it is even finished being repaired after then have called me to come pick up my car. I have had three rentals now for a total of 32 days and the problem is sitll not fixed (Rattle in the middle console). They also took all my change too!! I would have never thought to look until you mentioned it. Next time i'm gonna count the change i leave in there and make sure its all there when I pick it up again.

Yeah, same here as the above 2 posts.
Brought my car in for the out-of-spec tranny issue - got a Dodge Neon shitbox as "loaner"
Service is so fecking swamped & they can't get their shiet together.
There is always like a line (LOTs of MDX in my case).
After this tranny issue I have I am never ever gonna deal with those losers again.

nader and cloredo: go to Radley Acura in Falls Church. Much better service than Pohanka, IMHO.
