they are just little metal clamps that squeeze the seams where the two parts of the headlight housing meet together.

You should go to the Acura dealer you bought it from then Luv and give them some whoop-ass. Just tell them where's my frickin' notice.

Or just dress up in your vixen gear

I think vixen gear is how I got a loaner for my 30k service. It was a Saturday and they let me take a loaner TSX for a few hours while they worked on my car, even though I had planned on waiting for it.

Personally? no... we're talking a lot of pressure that is needed if there is a bad seal. These clips are kind of like tin.... but I still have trust in the Acura name and the people who engineer them. (I would hope they are the same people who engineer the fixes for them as well)

damn you headlight looks bad in your avatar. my jdm headlight has looked like that twice but only when it was really humid. I was thinking of getting more of those gel packets to put in them and call it good since it only happened twice.

Yeah, it started about a year after I bought it and remained that way since--to the point where I replaced the headlight twice and now the moisture has damaged the ignitor/ballast which this Monday, will be replaced. The moisture accumilated so much, water was visable. All this was just from our cold winters going in to an unheated garage. Blah...

So is there room to put silica gel packs in the housing without it being seen?

The light housings already have silica gel packs in them.

I just had my headlights replaced (it's an 05). I brought the car in for an unrelated repair (CE light was on; needed a new 02 sensor)(53K miles, 24 months old). Turns out there's a recall just out on this; if you didn't get a notice yet, you should (as long as Acura knows who the owner is and can find you; those who are third or fourth owners and/or are living in your car may be out of luck). It was the first I'd heard of it; I never had a condensation problem.

I got my letter about a week ago. Dropped off my TSX as the dealer tonight and they will perform the service tomorrow. I haven't noticed any condensation so I fully expect to see clips and not new lights. I'm also getting the complimentary 45-point inspection (Acura is doing this for the entire month of April), and I asked them to take a look at the rear camber because it looks excessive. I even printed out the TSB for them. We'll see what happens.

Had my '04 for two and a half years and felt that I had observed a bit of condensation in the driver's side light on a couple occasions, but could not swear on it. When I took it in today, I asked the guy how they distinguish bet the cars that get condensation and the one's that don't, and (w/o answering the question) he mentioned a four step process ( clips only, driver's light changed, passenger light changed, both lights changed). Did not press it. Took the clips, the '45 point inspection' and a wash and vacuum in a quick hour.

He did mention that they've changed a few ignitors (to say nothing of the headlights themselves which I think come in @ a grand a piece) and he said that part alone was two hundred and eighty five dineros.

I just got my letter today so I hope they change mine out. Do you think they will still change it even though this car was bought used and not new?

Yes, you should have no problem. I'm getting annoyed though...I still haven't received the letter and I'm getting closer to my next service and want to get it done then. I guess I'll just have to ask them without the letter in hand.

I went in for regular service a couple of weeks ago and the advisor just went ahead and scheduled it. I hadn't (and still haven't) received a notice (or even was aware of the problem). I'm sure they'll just go ahead and do it when you bring the car in regardless of whether or not you've been notified.

yeah but if enough moisture gets in your headlights to cause condensation i would assume it is bad and should be replaced.

excuse me if this was mentioned in this thread since I didn't read the entire thread - but I got my letter today; no sign of trouble with my headlight assemblies ...so does anybody know if they will sell me back my original "defective" assemblies for a good price? I'd like to take them apart and use some parts on my other car. I know = ask; which I plan to do.

If there's nothing wrong with your headlights, they'll just apply the tabs on your original lights, so you won't have any extra parts.

The clips are to, hopefully, prevent moisture from getting in. No parts left over for you to play with.

Where did you buy the headlight? At the dealer? I'm pretty sure they won't reimburse you for the cost but it never hurts to ask.

Hmmm. I vaguely remember reading, I believe in a letter from Acura Canada that someone received a little while ago about the headunit recall, telling people to ask about reimbursement for previous repairs to the headunit. Try searching for the headunit/radio display threads and see who posted the letter, because for some reason I think I read it there. Who knows, maybe it would apply to you, too, or anyone who replaced headlights with their own funds before the update was issued.

Well, when I received the letter from Acura about the headlight problem I didn't have the problem. Washed my car a few days ago and guess what? Yea, there is water in the drivers side headlight. I've kept the letter just in case. Time to call my dealership...........

i called my dealer, and they were saying there was "recall" or "warranty issue" on 04~05 Headlights, and that they are aware of the problem, they will fix them.

when i told them mine was 06, they also said it will be covered, since i have warranty on the car obviously...

call the dealer, get them fixed

just got mine fixed on my '05 6mt with 24k miles. they mentioned the letter, but said it would've been covered under warranty anyway. The invoice shows, the recall. Got the car back in a couple of hours, but not before I took a TL for a loaner. Nice ride. Sooooo tempting

I never got a letter, but I had the moisture problem and brought it in to a dealer to look at. My car was over 50k and out-of-warranty, but they ended up replacing the driver side headlight assembly (one with moisture) and installing the clips on the passenger side. It took a little over 2 hours to do. Don't let them snow you like they did me and tell you it will take an hour (and not give you a loaner). They have to remove the bumper to replace the assembly and it will take about 2 hours.

have the same issue, gel packs and clips didn't really help. checked all the seals several times. i've learned to live with it.

I actually tucked in the seal behind the high beam a little more and I think that got rid of it. It rained all day yesterday and I didn't see any condensation inside when I wiped the water off.

I had some leaking in my jdm lights
so i took off the housing heated it up using a hair dryer to get the condesnation out .

The seal on my headlight started to open and water poured in slowing from the top.

So i went to pepboys got some atv sealent dried up the inside it was nice and toasty.
Sealed the whole top and no more condensation.

I might have needed to let my highbeam run to burn out some of the extra moisture.

hope this helps people.

I don't drive my car too often at night but I recently noticed that I having fogging in both of my JDM 05 headlights. When I first got them installed about 2 years ago it did fog up just a little. It was about the size of a penny.

Over time the fogging seems to grow like a virus. It's alive!!!! Anyways, I'm starting to get sick and tried of this fogging problem. I swear people on the street are looking at the car and shaking their heads.

On a side note: I park my car in a non-ventilated garage. Would this cause any problem with the gel packs in the headlight? I don't drive my car that often. I think about a year ago I replaced my high beam bulbs and my engine was still hot, would this cause moisture to enter the headlights since the engine bay is hot.
