Clicking noise from front axle

1st generation manual transmission, 56k miles. I am getting a cliking noise (very subtle) when the car goes from a dead stand and accelerates foward or reverse. Once the car is moving the clicking is gone. CV joints were discarted as the problem since the car doesn't make any noise when turning. There is no grinding noise coming from the transmission.
Anyone has run into this kind of problem?

Thanks

Gotta be CV joints - check 'em.

Is the noise related to throttle position? Like, if you accelerate harder, does the noise get louder?

Not at all. It just does it when there is the initial effort to move the car, and if I accelerate slowy it doesn't do it. Once the car has momentum, it doesn't happen when shifting in any of the gears.

Or maybe the wheel bearing assembly - put the vehicle on a lift and start wiggling things. To check for a bad bearing, grab the top and bottom of the tire and check for vertical movement - there should be none. Then repeat for horizontal.

Had the exact same problem, eventually turned into a squealing noise. Mine just needed lube and the noises stopped. I, too, thought it was the CV Joints but it wasn't.

Did you experience the problem while the car was in an uphill?

Hey,

Not to thread jack (well sort of...), but I'm having the same issue. I currently have a 07 auto tsx and 21k miles.
I currently have tanabe coilovers, and a rearsway bar (relating to suspension) and whenever I turn left I hear metal grinding sounds... I'm pretty sure its the cv boot and that the axle needs to be replaced =\

Question is... Do you think my dealership would honor a warranty on it? I'm thinking they're going to deny warranty saying it is due to the aftermarket suspension...

Any help would be much appreciated!

Well most dealers probably want the easy way out so they'll say that. If your boots are indeed torn at 21k miles then chances are that you either hit something or your aftermarket parts did cause it. It is very rare that any CV boots would crack at such low mileage. They usually crack between 70-100k miles depending on age and use.
