A/C Trouble
A/C Trouble
Wondering if any of you have had this experience...
I've had my TSX ('04, SSM, 5AT Navi) for 7 months and have racked up nearly 18K miles. I love it and have had no problems with it, until the other day. After normal use and being parked for about 2 hours, I was driving back home (it was a surprisingly warm day) and noticed that the climate control was not cooling the car. No matter what I did - lowering the temp all the way to "Lo", manually pressing the A/C button on the climate control - refrigerated air was not coming out of the vents.
In the couple of days since the A/C hasn't gotten any better. At night cool air blows in but it's definitely not the refrigerated A/C cold air - it's the cool, more humid outside air.
I checked the owners manual and it wasn't much help. I plan to take it in in the next few days.
Any thoughts/suggestions?
Thanks.

Did you have the AC set to auto or manual? If you have it set to manual, it may be set to off. I found this out the other day actually. I didnt realize that I could turn the compressor off while in manual mode.
This is on a navi, dunno if its different for a non...

Look out for a leak inside the compressor. The techs at Acura will need to fill your system with R134 and add some cloring to it. They will call you back in a week later to check out where the leak is. The compressor will need replacement if it leaks (covered by warranty), but the part has been B.O. for a looong time.
Oh and I was there before you, so no getting a compressor before me!!
Ok, I took it into the dealer and they claimed that the condenser had been punctured by some rocks, and therefore had leaked out all the refrigerant. They told me this wasn't covered by warranty and with labor, the replacement would cost $800!!
What the hell?! I'm furious they say this isn't covered by warranty? Has anybody else heard of this?

If it's in fact damaged by some rocks, then it would be difficult to get it covered under warranty. Did the tech show you the damage? Make friends with the service advisor. Maybe he will make an exception.

Yes, definently ask to see the condenser.
Have them show you the punctures and satisfy yourself that (a) a rock could have bounced up into that location, and (b) that the holes in the condesor look like they were caused by an object striking the surface. Be aware of any fissure cracking or outward bubbling which would be more of an indication of faulty equipment.

Wow, never heard of a rock bouncing up and hitting a condensor and cracking it open, generally it's around the line flanges and connections at the condensor where older Honda's are notorious for having seal issues there.
That's is really interesting, can you please take a picture too if you can.

There are others who have had the same issue whereby a rock or some sort of debris has cracked the condensor. Some have mistakenly called the condensor a "compressor", but if you do a search in the Problems & Fixes area, you'll come up with many posts. Just use condensor or compressor as a keyword.
There was at least one who got the repair covered under his comprehensive coverage with his insurance carrier.
