Brake Clunk
I have just noticed on my '05 5AT with 16,000 miles that when I go to let off the brake after stopping, there is a clunk noise that comes from the front end. I think it might be one of the front brakes sticking because it does it when I am backing up or going forward. It also does it at low speeds if I repeatedly apply the brakes firmly. Has anyone else noticed this in there TSX? Could it possibly be a sticky caliper at 16k miles??
I have all oem parts, but after searching for a couple of hours and talking with my boss who has 2 acura's. it would seem that what I'm getting is that ABS pump build up. though I can't find information about this in owners manual, it seems to be a common thing.
Mine is all OEM. I really don't think that it has anything to do with the ABS. I wonder if it could be a strut mount or a loose caliper bolt. I am going to take a wheel off this weekend and check it out. My closest dealer is 250 miles away, unless I can take it to the Honda dealer.

I've always had it. Doesn't do the clunk every single time I brake, though. It did it when I had all OEM parts, now I have Power Slot rotors & Hawk pads and it still happens. I hear the same (or similar) clunk sometimes when I make sharp turns. I've always wondered what it is.

It isn't necessarily during the first 2 minutes after startup. It is more of a mechanical sound than the noise the ABS makes when you take off. It sounds like if you had a rubber mallet and tapped the frame with it. Its definetly not the VSA/ABS check.
Can you duplicate the noise by bouncing slightly on the front end?
If not, is the floating portion of the caliper loose enough in the frame that it can knock around in any direction?
Or are the pads loose enough in the caliper frame to knock around in any direction?
I'd probably blame the caliper pins (pins too small or guide too large?) or perhaps a machining glitch in the caliper frame.

It also does it when I take off from low speeds (<5mph). I don't necessarily have to use the brakes for it to clunk, but braking makes it louder. It doesn't matter if I am going forward of backwards. This only happens at low speeds like I had said before, it never happens at higher speeds.
I had similar problems in my previous car (96 Accord). I had a "knock" like sound in reverse and driving from low speeds. I found that it was from my suspension (pass. side rear camber). I found this out when I was getting new tires and allignment and the guy at the shop said that one of the bolts that holds the camber in place was coming loose. After the allignment, never heard of the bump again.
I was troubleshooting this sound today and found all 5 of the flange nuts on the front left damper were loose (see post #59 in this thread). I tightened down the flange nuts and it seems that the noise went away. If you don't know where these are check out Step #4 from the A-spec installatin instructions.
Bumping this old thread because now this is happening to me - only the noise is definitively coming from the rear of the car, and only after coming to a stop after fairly hard braking. I had Hawk HPS pads put in a month ago and my rotors are OEM. Any ideas?
- I already checked the RSB endlinks, and re-lubed the RSB bracket bushings (they were bone dry) but that hasn't stopped the noise.
- There is nothing in my trunk or cabin that is rolling around to cause the noise - I keep nothing in my car.
- Based on posts above I'm considering pulling out my rear seat this weekend and checking the two flange nuts atop my A-Spec suspension to see if those have come loose.

Bump
I'm getting this almost every time I release the brakes now. I'm even getting it when I have the car running and I turn the steering wheel left and right slightly. I'm going to check it when I get back home this weekend. After reading these threads i'm going to check the end links, lower control arm, and the flange nuts. It's starting to creak pretty bad now.
