battery weakening after only 3k miles?
i've noticed that whenever i start up my TSX now, it takes a few extra cranks for it to start than it used to.
i've read on here that the OEM battery is crap, and its best to switch to something better once it dies. but is it normal for it to act like this after only 3k miles? i mean, there have been times where i've hooked up a mini-vac in the cig lighter to clean the interior, or had the music playing while cleaning the inside of my car, but this is kind of ridiculous. the temp isn't really that cold either. i think we've been averaging around 40's at night.

i also use a mini-vac and have the radio on while i am cleaning my 06 tsx- no problems (knock-on-wood) with the battery. the battery is under warranty so go the dealer-maybe you can get a new one. I also have a mini cooler plugged in one of the chargers. I have owned my 6spd tsx 6 months (bought new) and it has almost 16,000 miles.

I'm driving an 04 with around 31.5k miles and I'm having the same problem. It's taking a few seconds longer to start my engine. I installed a voltage stabilizer and grounding wires kit hoping to help with this, but it didn't seem to. I'll probably end up just buying a better battery once I've got some money kicking around again.

There should be a warranty on the battery and you can have it replaced if it dies

would that be the first position turn? i usually just turn it all the way when i start it.
i don't know. i guess if it gets worse, i'll take it into a stealership. it's just annoying.

well, here's another observation--usually my first start of the day (after leaving the car idle overnight) takes a few extra cranks.
but every start after that is relatively normal. would this mean it's more of a fuel-pump-related issue that gftgrill was talking about? or is it just the crap OEM battery? i'll have to check the distill water level this weekend.

my civic used to have problems with not starting if you didn't let the fuel pump prime first.
it's not a problem with a specific component. the problem is that there isn't enough fuel going into the engine to start it. when the car sits for long periods of time, most of the fuel flows back into the tank. well when you turn the key to the on position the fuel pump start pushing fuel to the motor. if you're cranking the motor while the pump is priming the line, then it's going to take a couple extra cranks to start the motor.
as long as the motor starts cranking once you turn the key, the battery is fine. It means that the battery is suppling enough power to turn the starter.
