AC problem. Passenger AC works, Driver-side No AC

I have a 2004 TSX. I recently left the state and left my car sitting for a week. I can back and today I noticed that my AC wasn't running right. After looking into it more I discovered that my passenger side vents respond and blow both heat and AC. However the driver side responds to the heater but does not respond to the AC. The fan is still blowing, but the air is not cold when I turn the temperature down. It blows the outside temperature of air through the drivers side. Even when I place the system on dual mode, I get the same response. So when my AC is placed in the AUTO or DUAL mode, I get cold from the Passenger vents while simultaneously getting ambient temperature air from the drivers.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be?

it means you have low refrigerent in the system. there is a leak and you should take it to your dealer.

So are there 2 separate AC units or hose lines for the tsx? One for the driver and one for the passenger. Because the passenger side is blowing cold air just fine.

I've been having the same problem for a couple months and have been wondering what it could be. It does not do this all the time on mine, though....sometimes it is ok and sometimes not. It has also changed which sides are cold and hot, and then yesterday I noticed my heat stopped working on my drive to work. I had it on auto, and when I changed it to temp 74 with the blower all the way up, all the air out of the center vents just stopped completely. It is the weirdest thing, and getting super aggravating. But I am trading in my car next week, so I've just been living with it for the time being.

I checked the system for leaks and the pressure is fine on the Ac unit. Also, the high pressure and low pressure pipes are "cold and warm to the touch" when the compressor kicks on. I know this is a shot out in left field, but if the freon levels are right and the compressor is working do you think it could be (for lack of a professional term) a "relay" that diverts the cold air through the vent on the drivers side? Because the AC unit is holding pressure and seems to be working.

I have the same problem. My compressor shredded recently and it seems to have gummed up the works. I don't do A/C so I had a mechanic friend of mine fix it. He put in a new comp. and cond. and it was fine for a while, but now I have the same symptoms you have. He says there is one evaporator with a door to each side. He thinks maybe the expansion valve is clogged causing the evap. to not work on the driver's side.

Was he able to fix it? Does anyone know where it is located? I'm guessing under the dashboard because I followed both lines into the cabin. I'm guessing there should be a DIY somewhere out there than can help me find it.
If anyone knows of a quick reference or a link to it I would really appreciate it!!

I didn't have him do it. I've spent enough on this car already and may sell it soon. He said he would do it for $300-350 and if I was going to keep it I would give it a try.

Thanks for your help. I'll probably resort to just taking apart my dash and seeing if that valve is the problem. I'll post what I find. Cross your fingers!

Have fun with that.

Is this your first time to have A/C trouble? What year and how many miles do you have?

Yes this is the first time I have had any type of problem on this car. It's a 04 Automatic with 115K miles on it. I have loved it and it still drives like a champ. I use it for work mainly in the summer which means lots and lots of driving and constant AC. I have been dreading the day that I started having AC problems. Hopefully it's just that valve.

eg5 you were right, it was low refrigerent. When I checked the PSI on the low side of the AC unit it read 40 PSI (which is where is should be with the ambient temperature.) I noticed that when I was reading the pressure that the compressor wasn't on. I had turned the car on but not the AC. So when I turned on the compressor the pressure was at 4 PSI. I recharged the unit with a sealant to hopefully seal any leaks in the system. I charged it last night, ran it for 30 minutes on the freeway on my way home. Let it sit all night and checked it first thing this morning. It dropped 5 psi so I recharged it again and drove all day with it. Just checked it again tonight and the PSI was maintaining 40 PSI.
Both vents started working again, and responsive to both heat and AC now. It seems like if you don't have enough pressure, you won't have enough to engage the drivers side.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. Hopefully this helps someone else in the future before you take apart your dash or drop a couple hundred on something so simple.
