AC issue. Please help diagnose

Hi. New to the forum/site. 2004 Acura TSX.

My AC blower quit working yesterday. It's too damn hot out there for that. I checked fuses 21 (exterior) and 30 (interior), they looked fine but I replaced them anyway. No power is getting to the two fans. I switched the larger fuses around, but no effect.

It's under extended warranty. But don't want to make the trip.

Please advise. Thanks.

When I'm driving down the road and the AC is on, I can feel with my hand a little bit of air leaking through. And it's cold. This means the compressor is ok right?

I don't want to make a 3 hour trip if it's something I can fix easily.

CarbonGray Earl:

I thought the compressor exploding and contaminating the system was the well known problem.

But chn121 seems to be describing a different problem. The blower not working and not blowing air regardless of a good functioning compressor.

I had not heard before that the blower problem was also a common problem.

Please correct me if i am wrong.

Yes, I was mistaken. Apologies cnh121. All I saw "2004" and "AC" and automatiically assumed...you know how that goes.

Not sure about the blower problem. My first guess would have been the fuses, but you've already taken care of that.

sorry, I can't be of any help.

Definitely make the trip to the stealership. That's what your warrenty is for. Go in, say "It's broke, AC don't work. Fix it, give me loaner." then drive off in the loaner. Use the warrenty you paid for.

I'm guessing you mean the cooling fans behind the radiator - if so, your system is probably low on freon and the system does not turn the fans on because they are not needed. Does the AC compressor run?

Sounds like you have a relay out especially since you are getting cold air. Think about it, the compressor is working and air being forced through the vents via outside pressure while driving.

Is the blower working without the A/C on or with heat?

It doesn't matter if the heat is on or cold air. No air coming through except the small amount that leaks through when I'm driving.

Correct.

I don't see how this would make the blower stop working.

yes...cold air leaking through when i drive

how do I check this?

Go in, say "It's broke, AC don't work. Fix it, give me loaner."
I will if I can't fix it this weekend myself. If it's something that is easily replaced for less than $30, I don't want to waste time and the same amount of money just on gas to drive to the dealership.

Thanks for the insight guys.

OK, the compressor runs but the radiator fans don't and a small amount of cold air makes it thru the inside ducts. The cold-hot air blend valve, or the valve that controls outside air flow through the evaporator coil are not operating properly. This could be an electronic controller problem or some debris in the air ducts keeping the valve(s) from moving to the correct position. I doubt this is a DIY fix - call the dealer and describe what's happening - they may have a quick fix which they can describe over the phone. Else head their way ...

I wish I could remember the person that had this issue and replaced the relay b/c I can't remember which one it was.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I've given up on trying to fix it myself. I'm taking it in on Monday. It will be a hot weekend.

I'll post an update when I find out what the problem was.

Thanks again.

2 years ago, I had a relay replaced. However, my system was still blowing air, it just wasn't cold all the time. It would be cold for a couple of minutes after starting the car, but then turn warm. After several weeks of this, it eventually turned warm 100% of the time. I had to make 2 trips to my dealer to fix it because they said all the relays were fine the first time, which obviously they weren't. I remember it was a $4 part, though I'm not sure of the labor because mine was under warranty. No more warranty for me, so hopefully no more A/C issues.
