5AT problem - Shifting from reverse to drive
Just bought a new TSX 5AT (2 weeks old). After the first week I began to notice a slight knocking (or click) sound coming from the transmission when shifting from reverse into drive. I took the car into my dealership for them to look at. After a day of them investigating they called and said that everything was fine. I went down to the dealership and simulated the noise which they were unable to produce. The service manager agreed that the sound was abnormal and would look into it. Yesterday he phoned and said that the all AT TSX's produce this noise which is involves the the clutches and solonoid movement etc. I was furious with his answer and went down to the dealership. I test drove 2 new TSX's and an MDX and sure enough all three did the exact same.
I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this with their cars specifically with the TSX? Or if anyone has a more specific answer as to what is causing this noise?
In the end the Service Mngr agreed that the sound does seem abnormal and will consult the Acura Engineers for a complete answer.
Other than that the car is awsome.. I'll post some pics once sun comes out again in Calgary.

If you hear the sound on two TSX's you recently test drove, did you test drive your TSX before buying it? Are you rolling backwards while shifting into drive?
I own a TSX with the 5AT and I don't hear anything out the normal but it may be because my hearing is starting to go.

When shifting between R and D, I know there is a mechanism that engages a lockout feature so you can't shift into R if you're moving forward faster than ~3mph. Perhaps it's this lockout mechanism that you're hearing. I don't specifically notice it on my car, but like others said, it could be that you're more perceptive/sensitive to such noises.
I think this sort of issue was discussed before: http://www.acura-tsx.com/forums/show...=&threadid=853
I haven't noticed it on my TSX yet, but i've only had it for a few days. It is a normal noise with the solenoid engaging and disengaging when shifting an automatic.

It seems to me this issue was dealt with somewhere on this board. You might try doing a search of "transmission" or "noises" or "clicking" and see what you get. Mine doesn't do it that I've noticed.
If your in a garage or some other quiet place and shift into drive the click of the solonoid is noticable although faint. For the solonoid to click ti takes at least one to two seconds. If I don't wait and begin moving forward immediately after stopping that when abnormal sound is heard.
It's worth the try to listen for it. As I said earlier I test drove 2 other new ones on the lot and they both did the exact same along with the MDX.
Thanks for the feedback

I had the same problem when I first got my TSX. The sound is normal for a honda car. My girlfriends got a 97' Accord and my buddy drive an 01' Accord. and both have the same clicking sound..
dont need to be in garage to hear it, you need to be at a place or wall where they will reflect the sound wave back to you.... i believe all Honda's automatic produce this sound when shifting between R and D, the "klunking" ?? i had that on my TSX but i am not worry about it... as long as it does not vibrate badly... hope this help!!
