2006 TSX does not start if I go one day without using it

Hello,

This is my first post so bare with me if it is in the wrong section. I have a 2006 Acura TSX and it does not start if I go a day without using it.

I went to autozone, purchased a new battery and I am still having the same problem. They tested my alternator and said it was fine. They tested the battery and they said it won't keep a full charge.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

That's your problem. The new battery is a dud. You should get it replaced with another one.

The battery stores power to start the engine. Once the engine is started, the alternator takes over and provides the power that the car needs (and charges the battery). That's why you can start the car each day (since you bring the battery's charge back up), but if you don't start the car, the battery's charge drops below the minimum needed to start the car.

I have an 06 and if I don't start my car in 2 weeks (in the cold climate), my car will not turn over. I have a battery that is about 8 months old.

I have a nav so I am not sure if that draws more on the battery when its not started. But one day does seem ridiculous.

Sounds like the new battery is bad. I would go back to Autozone and have them check it and/or replace it.

Another possibility is that something is drawing power from the battery even when the car is turned off - running the battery down. Have you added any aftermarket accessories? audio amplifier? GPS unit? Ipod/Iphone adapter? I have an Isimple Ipod adapter that draws power all the time even though the key is shut off - it doesn't draw enough power to run the battery down over one day - but other unswitched accessories could run the battery down.

Are your heated seats turned on? If you are driving around town, the heated seats can draw too much power for the alternator to keep up and still charge battery.

Also, keep in mind your lights and fogs draw lots of power.

What is your power across the battery terminals while the car is running?

You said they replaced the battery, but you still had the same issue. They then tested your alternator and battery and found that the battery won't keep a full charge. Like I said, the new battery must be bad. It has probably been sitting on the shelf for a long time, on the ground and slowly been discharging, or who knows what.

The TSX's battery is known to have a low CCA (Cold Cranking Amps), which is important in cold climates. Coupled with how small the battery is, and how common the TSX battery fails, you should upgrade your battery to an aftermarket battery (especially with one that has more CCA since you live in a cold area).

Come to think of it, my TSX has been taking twice as long to start up now that it's been raining and it's "very cold" here. I think I might have to upgrade my battery as well (it was replaced by the dealer a couple of years ago when my original one was tested and found to be bad).

I apologize, I should've been more clear.

So my original tsx battery started doing this a few months ago, then I went to autozone and got a new one...the problem continued so they tested it out and said the alternator was good but the battery wasnt fully charged..so then they replaced the battery and the new battery sstarted doing the same thing..

I have nothing in the charger sockets, and the seat heaters are off..

I'm lost

There are 3 possible issues: parasitic drain, the alternator, or the battery. Since you aren't using the charger sockets, and hopefully all of your lights are off, there should be no parasitic drain (unless there's a short somewhere that's slowly draining your battery).

If the alternator isn't working properly, it won't charge your battery all the way, if at all.

If the battery is bad, it won't hold the charge well.

I would bring your car to a different Autozone and have them diagnose your car. I have heard of Autozone employees having varying amounts of experience, with some employees not knowing how to correctly use the equipment.

I'd get a second opinion to see if the alternator is actually good. If they confirm that the alternator is good, then I still think the new battery is a dud.

I remember one time when my dad drove to Autozone, bought a battery, brought it home, and then brought back the old battery for a core charge. When he came home, he found out that the new battery was bad, so he ended up going back to getting the new battery replaced with another new one.

Car Won't Start Without a Charge

I have the same problem as well. I have a 2007 TL Type S. The car is 48 months old and Acura replaced the battery 12 months ago due to a lack of charge. I didn't drive the car the past two days. This has occurred before when I didn't drive it for two or more days. I have checked everything that draws power and nothing is on.

I welcome input from anyone who has experienced this before.

Thank you.
