Tsx536's - Auto 5AT - w/ Comptech Supercharger - Dyno / Pics (No 56K)
I got my TSX back on Saturday morning and I am happy to say that Comptech did not run into any problems with the fitment or tuning. The very first automatic has now been officially Supercharged!
Driving Impressions: I've driven about 300-400 miles already and it has been running great. I've been doing a lot of driving and the car just pulls a lot harder now. Anytime you are on the gas above 3000 rpms, you can definitely feel the boost. If you floor it, the car just takes off. It's a nice rush! Passing on the freeway is much improved. I was doing a lot of freeway driving this weekend and I was able to pull hard on a lot of cars. I hit 100 mph effortlessly and there was still power leftover. The gain in power can definitely be felt. It's a night and day difference and just feels like a completely different car now. Just like Sho-one said in his review. The Vtec feeling that you get from 6k up on a stock TSX, is now felt from 3k-7k RPMs. You hit close to peak torque around 3000k RPMs, and stay close to the peak all the way to redline. I will try and post more info after I've had a chance to do a little more driving.
Sound: The SC is very stealth and can barely be heard at idle. If you keep your revs low, the average person would probably not even know the supercharger is there unless you were to tell them. Whenever you go into boost though, you can hear a nice whistling sound. It's not too loud and sounds very intoxicating! Sho-one has a video clip out there that you should listen to if you're curious about the sound. I will try and make some videos soon.
I'd like to thank a couple of the guys at Comptech. Nate for hooking me up with the opportunity to be the test vehicle, and Billy for doing the install. Special thanks to Billy for making sure everything went smoothly. He was a very knowledgable and down to earth guy. I had a lot of newb questions and he was happy to answer all of them. I definitely recommend them to do the SC install. They are a very professional shop and put a lot of time into making sure things get done right.
I'd also like to thank Doug from Hondata. He developed the SC reflash and also sent a loaner ECU for me up to Comptech. This made the turnaround time a lot shorter since I didn't have to ship my ECU away to get it reflashed back to stock for my baseline dyno. He also went above and beyond the call of duty by chasing down a Fedex driver on Thursday night to make sure that my ECU would get to Comptech before the weekend.
Here's my dyno guys:
These numbers are all measured at the wheels on a Dyno Dynamics Dynamometer:
The red line is a completely stock Auto TSX with OEM ECU, OEM intake, OEM header, OEM Cat, and OEM Exhuast.
The blue line is a TSX with Comptech Supercharger, SC Hondata Reflash, Comptech Icebox, DC Header, OEM Cat, and OEM Exhuast.
Peak Horsepower is now 223 whp, up from 166 whp stock.
The Biggest horsepower gain was 59 whp @ 7100 RPMs
Peak Torque is now 165 ft/lb, up from 138 ft/lbs stock.
The Biggest torque gain was 43 ft/lbs @ 7100 RPMs
4 Dyno runs were done on my car:
1. Baseline dyno all Stock
2. All stock with only the SC
3. With SC & Comptech Icebox
4. With SC, Comptech Icebox, & DC Header
Here is the chart for the Baseline Dyno:
Here is the chart for the dyno with SC, Comptech Icebox, & DC Header:
(The numbers for 7100 RPM is on the next page. I went ahead and retyped them into this pic so it's easier to read)
In Summary, I'm very happy with this mod. It is everything that I was hoping it woudl be. Like I mention above, it feels like a completely different car. After a few weeks I will be playing around with changing out my cat from OEM to Random Tech, and also my intake from Comptech Icebox to Injen CAI. I will keep you guys informed, and also maybe even do another dyno.

Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate all of the kind replies
I didn't plan on going to the track, but I might do AutoX. I'm not sure yet. I've never been on a track before, so it might be fun. If I ever go, you guys will definitely be the first to know my 1/4 mile and 0-60 times

Very very nice. I'm looking forward to seeing how this continues to work out for you. If you could update this, maybe a few months from now, that would be awesome.
d00d, I'm tellin ya: www.enhancedstreetperformance.com and tell Karl that Ryland sent you.

nice, congrats man. I'm glad your asa happy with it as I am, totally feels like the car you wanted. I wish there were more NorCal TSXers, maybe we can have a meet sometime. Let us know how the CAT affects power. I'm thinking about getting an exhaust, but I don't want to get rid of my comptech rear sway.
Also to get maximum power from your superchager, you should get new rims and sell me your old ones.
Have fun with your FI TSX
PEACE
BTW did nate or billy tell you how much weight the thing adds, cause I could swear my front end is a little lower. THX

the car is beautiful... i wish my AT CG/Quartz had that under the hood...
any pics from during the install...
also i know you arent supposed to talk how much you paid, but can i ask what they plan on charging the average person for the kit and install... also is this a kit you could physically install youself and then take to a shop to get tuned... this is assuming you have a mechanical background along with a few friends who are mechanics that can help out...

Haha, yeah I haven't heard the same thing about acheiving max power, so I'm gonna have to hold onto my rims. I know what you mean about the extra weight. I didn't ask them how much it was, but I know everything is made out of aluminum. My car seems lower in the front too. I guess this is good in a way since I only have aspec suspension and wanted a tiny bit more drop anyway.
Well have fun with your ride too! I hope that you have a radar detector

As for cost, I heard in another thread that Acura of Escondido is selling it for a very good price. The cost for install is going to depend on if you do the install yourself, or have a shop do it. Install costs at a shop will vary based on their labor rates, but it says 7 Hours +/- for install on the Comptech website.
You do not have to do any tuning. The SC kit includes a custom Hondata reflash, so you will be sending your ECU away to get the new reflash put on it. The tuning has already been done by Doug from Hondata. The tuning for the 6MT and 5AT is almost identical. Take a look at the numbers in the charts above. The Supercharged vehicle should ideally have an air/fuel ratio between 11.5 and 12.5. For safety reasons, sometimes the tuner will let the car run a little rich. The lower the number the more rich.

Thanks everyone
Silver Bullet, I will definitely try to make some videos. One of my friends from work is suppose to bring me a camera tomorrow.
cArkc, I'm not sure when the SC for the Auto will be available for sale to the public. It should be soon though. Let me know if you would like me to give them a call for you. They were using my car to help finalize the installation instructions, and I'm thinking it should be very soon though.
