For Those w/ the Mugen Grill

I installed my today and was confusing as anything. The japanese instructions were useless and the pictures didn't explain much.

What is the plastic circular spacer/washer for? I couldn't figure it out for the life of me. I had to zip tie the grill to the bumper because I couldn't fit any of the plastic pins through it, also did the same for the center mount on the top of the grill. It fits fine and very firmly though. I just kinda wondered about having extra pieces.

Its for the JDM radiator/bulkhead cover.. the black plastic piece that goes over the radiator.

Those pieces will fit perfectly for that cover..

Yes, actually what CLR-R said.
those are for JDM Radiator/Inner Cover only. If you didn't buy that... You don't need those 3 black spacer.

I cant remember how it goes. Helped a Friend installed it.. The spacers goes on the top part of the mugen grill. Now when you put the radiator cover on top of that. the holes should align and put the Push in clip back in.

my friend is interested in getting the mugen sports grill..but i had a question. does the grill that mugen ships you replace every part of the stock grill? in other words, can you replace every silver trim part? or do you have to paint some of the stock trim to get it looking like this:

by the way, how hard is it to install the grill? and how do you take the stock one off?

You've got to paint the strip that runs across the front of your hood.

Or you could order factory painted trim, like it looks like the picture has. It's about $50.

You can get it here:

Also depends on the color, I think Mugen will not have a painted CG. I think one other color as well, but not sure which one it is!

When buying the Mugen grill, the only trim you might want to replace is the chrome piece attached to the hood. There are no trim pieces on the Mugen grill!

I was in on the same GB as xizor, so 350 painted, plus we did a GB for the trim at 40 or 45. Call Morris at BPT (www.boomplustoys.net )and talk to him. Maybe he'll still hook you up. Just let him know you're from this site and you heard about a group buy! Additionally, always check the GB part of the forums, you can find some really good buys in there!
GB = group buy!

that includes the $40 for the radiator cover. I would guess a paint shop runs $80-$100 and $20 more for shipping, it was quite a once-in-a-group-buy deal.

$350 plus $46 more for the hood trim = hella expensive mod for the front end.

I just recieved my mugen yesterday from king motor. $250 unpainted. Its grey plastic. The mistake some people make is painting the top cross member the same color as the car, it should be painted black to match the mesh grill. If you have a black TSX it doesnt matter. Also, take off the mesh before painting. I have seen some pics that look like they just taped the mesh part off and painted. Its a bitch to get the fasteners off holding the mesh so I cut them and got new fasteners. Some people had trouble installing... I will let you know about my install. Any pointers are appreciated. Anyone take the bumper off or installed with the bumper on? A bunch of people had to use tie wraps on the bottom, anyone get the fasteners to work? The TSX maintenance manual grill removal process step 2 says. REMOVE THE BUMPER.

getting the tabs off the bottom might be hard, but I don't think removing the bumper is necessary

I put the grill on today. I didnt remove the bumper and it took less than 15 minutes. The stock grill came out very easy, the snap pins came right out. The hard part is getting the tabs into the lip of the mugen grill and bumper. I got the pins in the 2 top holes and zip tied the bottom like everyone else. I problably could have got the snap pins in but I didnt even try. Looks good but the paint job was not the best. I have to take it back to the shop for a buff and touch up. I also put matching black mesh grill in the fog light and center air space in the lower part of the bumper.

Pics of the lower mesh grill. I made these by hand so I think they came out pretty good. I didnt put on the black hood trim yet.

Ok I love the Mugen front grill and I plan on getting it and I've been reading the threads about it. One concern was that chrome piece that covers the tip of the hood that you have to buy a strip for to color it.

BUT, I just checked kingmotorsports.com and the grill for the 2006 TSX has been redesigned? It now doesnt look like it has that chrome part that goes on the hood. Am I seeing that right?

Now there's actually a top part to the grill that runs BELOW the tip of the hood. Does anyone know about this?

frankie,
the 04/05 mugen grille will not fit the 06 and visa versa. the size of the grille opening on the 06 is different than the 04/05-it is not just that the chrome was removed on the 06-the geometry is tweaked.
And most who go with mugen on the 04/05s have the chrome piece on the hood painted to match.

Subdued,

Yeah I realize that its completely different. But I do have an 06, so that means I wont have to worry about that chrome part over the hood right? Looks like the new design is a little less of a hassle?
