becasue I've already changed the front.

The rear looks completely different from the front. It looks like I need to take the whole thing apart b4 I can change the pads.

Would you guys post the pages from the service manual here please?

Thanks!

Question

I am also trying to replace the breaks in the rear. I started with the rear becuase they were making the most noise. I removed the wheel and have no idea where to go from there. Not sure how to releive the pressure or how to fold down the break assemble like in other cars.

also, looking at a acuraparts247.com it looks like the 04 and 05s have different rear brake pads...wonder if the calipers are different or if it's just the pads.

I've replaced the rear brake pads. It is very easy to do. There are the two usual bolts. You need to completely remove these two bolts. And then, there is a bolt that holds the brake line. You need to remove that bolt and then slide the brake line from the holding bucket otherwise you will not be able to pull the caliper out. After you remove all these 3 bolts, you can just pull the whole caliper assembly out. It is VERY easy. There is no force invoked.

To make the caliper or the PISTON back, you need to "screw" the thing clockwise. One important thing is that you need to align the piston with the brake pad becasue there is a pin on the brake pad that match into the "+" on the piston. When you put the caliper back make sure you match the pin with the "+".

Unlike the front where you "push" the pistion back. You "screw" it in with the one in the back. And you don't "fold" it up, you pull the whole thing out for the back.

AND I found out why my car was making noise in the left rear end when I made a right turn. The STABILIZER bar linkage was broken into 2 pieces! I found it out when I took out the wheel to replace the brake pads.

Another $35 buck for the stabilizer bar linkage! It is very easy to replace too. Just screw the old one out and screw the new one in.

The 04/05 MT & AT models use the same rear calipers and brake pads except the 04 AT, which has a different brake pad part number.

I just finished my breaks in the Rear. I bought the Ceramic breaks so I will get back to the group on how they work. The hardest part for me was loosening the blots that hold the Break assemble on. Lots of trips to Tahoe, so lots of rust! I needed a long socket wrench ~ 8 inches to get the leverage. Nice suggestion on the break line. I think I would have missed that, so thanks. Total time, took about 1.5 hours. 1.2 to do one side and then .3 for the other after I got the hang of how to loosen the bolts.

P.S. To relieve the pressure from the piston I used a neat trick. I don't have a tool crossed like that so... I took an allen wrench and connected vice grips to the long end, placed the short end into the slot and it worked like a charm. Sorry about the Spelling on the other post, Frustrated and tired.

Cheers and Good Luck.

You mention a bolt where the brake line comes in. Does this mean you are actually disconnecting the break line to make this change which would make it so you have to also bleed the break lines aftewards?

It's the bracket that secures the brake line to a suspension arm or something. Without removing this bracket, the brake line is preventing the caliper from sliding out of the mounting bracket. My Prelude is the same way. I have to remove the brake line bracket in order to slide the caliper out.

I just find that kinda odd... same cars but different rear brakes? I've always wondered, when you hit the brakes, do all 4 brakes work (F&R) or just the 2 front ones?

They all work, just different proportion. In most cases, the front ones do more work than the rear ones.

The rear brake pads for my 2004 look like organic. It is not metalic. Maybe the set for 2005 is metalic.
