Just the mufflers

If I want a more "F1" or "350Z" sound out of my TSX, but don't really want or need to go so far as to replace the entire cat-back system, is it possible just to install aftermarket mufflers? If so, any recommendations for a muffler with a throaty, turbo-muffler-ey (that's definitely a word) non-ricer sound?

Not another diy!

I wouldnt go cheap on an exhaust. The cat-backs are tuned for a specific sound. Who know's what your going to get if you just slap any old mufflers on...

How about an 06 muffler. I think the 06 has slightly larger internal piping. Maybe that'll help.

It is different, but at that cost, you might as well just upgrade to a SS cat back.

The piping for the 06 exhaust is apparently just under a quarter inch larger in diameter, but it's not going to give him the sound he's looking for.

If you really want that kind of sound, the closest you're going to get without going with an aftermarket cat-back system is to just eliminate the mufflers completely and run just pipe after the CAT. This will be loud, but should get you a very racy sound.

You can try buying just the Comptech mufflers. I've seen them on ebay and they are the same mufflers used on the catback systems. You just need to find the ones with the proper size and inlet/outlet configuration. Some welding will be required.

Has anyone looked into s2000 mufflers? I hear they're that twin loop design, rather than a chambered muffler. If I remember correctly, some integra owners took off just their muffler and welded one of those on there. Could sound better, it'll definitely flow better.

I might try that. What size are the stock exhaust pipes?
