i was wondering if it was ok to take out that muffler looking thing (resinator im guessing) and replace it with a piece of same size piping? will it still pass inspection? i was hold it would free up maybe a few ponies and some sound. thanks

It might! The catalytic converter is what burns away any unburnt fuel and/or any other emissions "unfriendly" particles. The resonator, just like in the stock intake system, baffles any sound that the majority of the population doesn't want to hear. Though mufflers and resonators have carbon in them to clean emmissions up, I believe that most of the noxious stuff is taken care of once your catalyst is warmed up. The muffler, like the resonator, has a main function of "muffling" sound...

You may be able to get away with it... but remember, your car still needs some back pressure...

Maybe I am not reading this correctly...all you did was remove the 2 resonators? If so then you don't a full after market exhaust. Go with larger piping and swap out the mufflers and you will feel more power. And what do you mean you got back the power you lost from the injen? You lost power from injen???

He says he gained what he lost, didn't say he gained power. He's probably talking about the torque loss

i have a full catback exhaust, i took out both resinators, and put two flowmaster 40 series mufflers running off of 2.5 inch piping. what i was saying was that i believe doing what i have to the exhaust, i have gained back the lowend ive lost from the cai, and also gained back some i lost by going with the heavy 18s.
