Hows this for Aux Substitute?

Since we can't do the aux using snhond because of xm on 05's, can't we just install a completely differen't system that has aux jacks and mp3 cd capabilities in the center compartment and have that share the speakers that is in the car already? Wouldn't that be easier? I really want a Aux input, but at the same time i don't want to cut wires or drill holes in my car. Just because. Im not sure cause i never done car mods before but i've worked with electronics and computer ins and outs. J/W

You would still need a way in order to hook up the sound output of the system in the center compartment to the factory HU. This would require tapping into the XM lines.

If you were willing to give up XM though, you would be able to just buy a SNHOND3/blitzsafe and plug the new system or headunit into that.

...or if you still wanted the system and wanted to keep XM, you could just buy a Xm tuner for the new system after you install it. That's basically what did, but I have Sirius instead of XM.

Having computer hardware experience is a good start. Car stereo install is a little more physically demanding though.

That's exactly what I did. Since I didn't like anything on XM, I basically substituted XM w/ an aux input courtesy of Blitzsafe. Everything else works perfectly - voice controls, 6 disc in dash CD changer, nav, radio, steering wheel controls, display, etc.

It was literally plug and play to install the aux input in my 05.

Did you put an Ipod in the auxilary then AlterZgo? Can you control the Ipod through the stock HU, etc.? Thanks, Chris

Which one would I use if I have the non-navi 05 and still want to use XM?

Yes. I connected my iPod to it. No, I did not get the component which would allow you to control the iPod through the headunit. But, all you would need is the Dension Icelink to do that.

Personally, I don't like the steering wheel controls. I'd rather just control the iPod using the iPod itself. Here's my set up. It's very easy to use while driving:

I used the Blitzsafe aux input. Note, this one disables the XM. However, I believe there's a product available that lets you add an aux input AND retain the XM, but I didn't bother w/ it b/c I have no use for the factory XM.

The mounting bracket is an all metal piece made by Panavise. It's extremely sturdy. Here's the link:

This is the only company I found that carried the TSX Panavise mount:

Additionally, the iPod is being held by a cell phone holder which bolts onto the Panavise mounting bracket. Any cell phone holder can be bolted to the Panavise bracket. I can't find the link to the one I used anymore. But, I suggest going to any cell phone accessory store and trying the cell phone holder w/ your iPod to see which fits best. It will easily bolt onto the Panavise bracket.

You still have to cut the wires to get the signal to the HU.

Are you talking about my setup with the Blitzsafe aux input adapter?

No wire cutting was necessary. I disconnected the XM harness and plugged in the Blitzsafe adapter in between and that was it. No splicing, cutting, or anything. All can be just as easily returned to stock.

I like the Panavise mount. I assume you pull out the center container. Are there existing holes to in the car you screw into or do you need to drill holes for mounting?

You drill holes into the side plastic plate to the right of the center pocket. However, w/ the center pocket in place, the holes are completely hidden. You can return the car to stock and the holes would still remain completely invisible.

Does anyone know if this mount would fit ok with a cassette player installed? How do you remove the player anyway? I don't see any way to grab it and pull it out. Thanks.

The product that is listed on the page that you provided won't work with XM. It says at the bottom that if you have factory XM, it must be disconnected to use the adapter. I'm still waiting for an adapter that disables XM so that I can listen to mp3s.

Did you read my post? I clearly stated, "Note, this one disables the XM."

The instructions for the Panavise mount seem to imply there are existing holes to screw into. Was it awkward to drill the 3 holes? I assume you use a small drill bit.

Blitzsafe is supposedly coming out with a new version of their unit that will allow both an iPod and XM in the upcoming couple of weeks according to a tech at Blitzsafe.

1. I'm positive there weren't any existing holes. It was easy to "drill" the holes. There is a plastic plate the Panavise mount attaches to. I heated up the tip of an awl (ice pick like tool), and used it to melt some small pilot holes for the 3 screws. The metal screws easily went into the plastic plate.

2. Yes. In fact, I could have sworn I've already read about people successfully installing an aux input and retaining the XM w/o any or the PITA modifications humperdood and others did in their installs.
