High Flow Cat?
High Flow Cat?
Catbacks to me are overpriced so Im debating on getting a high flow cat and header instead. Is it worth putting a HF cat on a tsx rather than sound or would there be a noticeable increase?
If you feel catbacks are overpriced, then they are. They are pretty much only for looks and sound (you gain like 2 to 3 whp, but that doesn't really register on the butt dyno) .
A high flow cat will make a pretty good difference in power. The stock 04/05 has a 900 cell cat, the 06/07s have 200 cell cats, and the RT has an 100 cell cat. I remember somewhere that a reputable member gained 10whp from an RT cat with an 04/05 TSX and posted a dyno chart to go with it. Combined with a header, it will make a very noticable difference in power.
However, if you do decide to go with the RT cat, there are some things you should know. It will give you a CEL eventually for faulty catalyst and mine rattled alot because of the floating flange design.
You can get spark plug defoulers to take care of the CEL and get the flanges welded to take care of the welding.

06 = 400 CELL
RT = 200 CELL

You don't need to get this anti fouler if you have a well built hi-flow cat. I don't have one and no CEL.
What it does is to "Get rid of the CEL caused by a raceheader or testpipe. The simulator works by relocating the sensor away from flow of exhaust, tricking the sensor into thinking it is reading the correct amount".

I don't have RT cat.
Unlike RT cat which uses an unknown cat core, Metal Cat is a working catalytic converter core.
I have had my cat for a lil' while, no problem so far, not even a single issue.

I run the RT cat and no check engine light and no rattles, you might be having rattles cause you didn't torque it down right.... I also run it with the CT catback and it sounds great! Plus a lil tiny extra mileage and a lil registry on the butt dyno
if you do want to get a defouler go with www.strutking.com

I got a magnaflow highflow cat and basically its obII so they had no issue with the check engine light.
Also my exhaust (fujitsubo) on 05 was noticiably louder than before.
cat = 900 cell
highflow lower so 400

Btw, it's quite hard to make one since you have to get the correct flanges, stainless steel pipe with the correct dia & length, a good welder, etc...
