First Look: Carbing Rear Cross Bar

Well, here is another rare JDM mod item I've never seen in a TSX before.
I'm one for performance, not just looks, so my car will receive full JDM
bracing. Everything I can find that is, lol.

One brace I've yet to see sported on a TSX is this one:

http://www.heeltoeauto.com/product.p...at=3371&page=1

Carbing's Rear Cross Bar

Fitment Verdict:
Needs Work.

The bar fits in the car, obviously. But it was made for the CL7.
It is supposed to simply mount to where the seatbelts mount down bottom.
However, in my 2008 CL9, there is only a seatbelt mount on the driver's side.
The passenger side seatbelt goes into the seat itself on the bottom.
It does not get bolted to the chassis.
So I will have to simply bolt the passenger side on myself.

Also the bar just barely fits.
I regrettably scratched up my inner plastic molding a bit while installing this bar.
I'll probably end up buying new plastic pieces for the future, so I don't feel bad
about scratching these ones.
I set the bar as tight as it can go, and narrow as possible, and even then it really
doesn't want to fit without some, ..., massaging.
but it does fit in the end.

Craftsmanship is top notch. Welds are beautiful. Metal is beautiful.

Overall I'm happy with the piece. It will surely do its job as well.

Oh, pictures?
Here are some I just snapped:

Nice Part!!!! Rare indeed.

It looks really nice. Might annoy the rear passangers, but hey, your driving so they could deal with it

How does it feel when you take turn now? Stiffer for daily driving?

it's not fully installed yet.
I need to do a little custom work to get the passanger side mounted up
correctly.

and rear seat passengers?

ha.

no rear seat passengers in this car.

that's what my G is for.
the only rear passenger for the TSX will be sitting in
a Recaro baby seat. but that won't be for a few years yet.
so I'm good to go.

I also have a Cusco under body brace here:

I'll install both next week probably with my strut bar and some power links
for the RSB.
I'll let you know then the difference that is felt.
I hope for it to be noticable for sure.

Im sure with all that bracing, there should be a really nice difference. That Cusco underbrace is nice as well.

I wish I had no passengers in my car, then I would be able to drop it more

I cant wait until you get all of that installed so you can give everyone a "review" of all your bracing.

I also ordered more bracing over two months ago.

Carbing Frame Braces.
Carbing Trunk Brace.

I'll get the J's Fender Braces in the future sometime.

I first tried to order the Carbing Sill Braces, CCC did too...
but they were discontinued. So now we're out of luck there.
I made sure to order everything else Carbing made quickly
before they too get discontinued. Probably will happen sooner
than later...

So this plus more bracing on the way soon.

This car will end up on the track one day soon too.
Next year at some point.

Marcus was telling me that he installed a Carbing Trunk Brace on our car, and it was amazing. He said it felt so sturdy and stable. I was going to get one, but as an Architecture student, I value my trunk to much

I am glad you are going to track your car. Puts those braces to work!! I might track my car in the end as well.

MMsTSX, there's so much JDM goodness going on i don't know how to consume all the info my eyes are giving me! now, i think it would be best if you compiled pieces of all your threads into one project car/build thread

very cool.

unfortunately with the baby and wife in the backseat this would definitley not work for me. neither would any of the trunk braces since a stroller constantly there.

with all the bracing you're getting, you're car is going to be rigidly awesome.

thanks but no thanks.

if I wanted to stray outside of JDM, I'd use Alutec bracing.

+1

But with all these JDM (functional) items, i don't really care how much thread(s) you need to create, of course w/ moderators approval, i'll be subscribing to them

Goodluck and keep em coming

oh, but the best is still yet to come...

I can't make a master thread now, I'm only halfway there!

I still need a header, cat, exhaust, intake, lip/bumper kit, BBK,
and so on and so forth.

Much more in store, but slow JDM shipping will drag this process
right out to the max.

nah, that's been done.
I'm not the biggest J's fan either for some reason.
Nothing against them, I just prefer other brands.
Mugen for one.

It'll be Mugen/Mugen/Amuse Double
I'm not into running test pipes, so a Mugen cat is
the best fit for me there. Plus I think I've settled on
picking their header as my favorite.
The Amuse will be a pure gamble, we'll just have to see.
An expensive one too, so I hope I'll like it.

I'll probably get a Gruppe-M intake as well down the line
and see what I like better between Mugen and that.

I have been considering J's brakes though.
Even though they're red.
And pairing them with some JDM and EUDM tails.

Cool thing is if I don't like something, I can switch it.
It's not all permanant.

The Mugen header is nice but be prepared to do some minor modification to the undercarriage in order for it to fit. You may also need an O2 sensor wire extension.

yes, I've heard.
I guess I need to do some subframe modification.
first I've heard of the o2 wire extension.

JTso, I seem to agree with your opinion on most stuff,
and you are for more knowledgeable than I am.

So wanting a cat, what is the best JDM header/cat combo
in your opinion, price not being an option?

Yeah I agree with you on that to a point. I mean if they are the only ones making the side sill braces still then I might look into it cause I would like to get a set and unless Alutec is going to make us a set they might be the only place to get them. Also did you see that rear brace they have. Looks really interested and I would be curious to see if I could fit it under the rear diffuser.

MMsTSX - Awesome glad you tried that bar. I was just thinking of ordering that this winter actually. Being that it is chrome/polished I guess I just confirmed the new color of my harness bar so that they will both match then. Good thing to know as well you can get the mats in and out cause I was really worried about that. Not that I use the rear for anything as it is now but gotta clean the car for shows.

MrHeelToe - do you happen to have anymore of these bar in stock.

The reason for the primary O2 sensor wire extension for the Mugen is because the JDM O2 sensor location is on the opposite side. Additionally, the a-pipe hanger is also positioned higher under the car, which means the oem hanger bracket can not be used to support the a-pipe. When I looked at the Mugen cat core the last time, it seems to be the same cell counts as the oem (can't remember if the car was a 04-05 or 06 + model). However, the cat is quite heavy like oem.

As far as which JDM header/cat combo is best, I really don't have the info or personal experience with them other than the Mugen. However, most JDM cats seem to use the two bolt oval flange which is more commonly available than the TSX flange. Therefore, if you find a JDM header that you like, you can make a custom cat using either Magnaflow metal core or Metal' cat from Australia. I know they are not JDM but you know they will perform well.

actually yes, it's in. wasn't hard really, just tricky, tolerances are very,
very tight.

I haven't driven the car much with it in yet.
just once to the zoo with the wife, so I couldn't really
push the car much at all. she likes smooth and easy
driving, nothing drastic at all.

I'm not sure I'll feel a huge difference just from this bar,
it's part of a puzzle really. each piece will have it's own small
effect. just casually driving to the zoo and back, I really didn't
feel much of any difference, but then again I wasn't looking for one.
