clutches

well seeing that my acura dealership will not replace my clutch under warranty, i was wondering what would be the best clutch to get. (performance wise and something that will last more than a measly 15,000 miles)??????????

I haven't seen any aftermarket clutches for the TSX yet. Maybe Kurt can tell you if one for the RSX-S can be adapted.

15 k Miles is not cool. i'm not sure how long the clutches normally last but i would think ithas to be much longerthan that.

Yes it should last a lot longer than that. I would take this to Acura HQ and have them prove to you that it could only have failed due to abuse and not manufacturing defect. Tell them that your lawyer needs them to put the results in writing for his file. That should get some results. Worse case scenario, you still have to buy a clutch.

True that....how could they not repair it under warranty anyways. I thought that was the whole point of having a warranty. I understand that if you alter the car, they may not cover anything, but if shit breaks, they have to fix it, no?

They are probably arguing that it is a wear item so they won't replace it. Just like tires. But if I was driving down the road and my tire delaminated you bet I'd be back at the dealer asking for a new one.

a performance clutch will probably go even quicker. i don't know the story behind your original clutch... but to have it go in under 15k tell me that you are abusing the clutch or just learning.

a performance clutch tends to accompany a lighter fly wheel which means you have to rev a lot higher in order to get going... less inertia mean more revs... which mean more slippage which means higher wear... which mean... you are going to be replacing your clutch again (in a shorter time period than your original).

do you "ride" the clutch? by this i mean having your foot on the clutch pedal but not actually pushing it in... this can lead to wear on the clutch because there is slippage going on. Just so little that you don't feel it. Overtime this will wear the clutch out.

I noticed your list excludes any previous honda cars, so maybe you are not use to the engagement point of a honda tranny. I'm reaching here.

If it's not driver error then maybe the hydrulic assist isn't working correctly, this is also streching. Usually there is a leak in master/slave cylinder (this happens after a while, like 10 years). I would make sure the fluid levels are correct. You should be able to see it yourself.

A Honda/Acura MT driven normally in normal conditions (not 2 hour bumper to bumper commutes everyday) should get at least 100K miles. Once disassebled, it should be obvious if it's regular wear or defect. The only thing that wears is the clutch pad (similar to the material on brake pads). If it's worn , it's worn - it comes out of your pocket. If a whole chunk is missing/broken or something else is a wrong then it should be fixed under warranty. Having Acura own up to the latter case, now that's another matter.

if i were you i''d go to a different dealership and tell them the situation. then slip the service guy $100 or even $200 and tell him that i'm sure that you will be able to help me right. that's what i did when i blew up my engine on a Audi S4 because of a chip i installed. my original dealer was like no way. so i went elsewhere and got a little more persuasive ($$$). in the end it's alot better to spend a couple hundred bucks instead of a couple thousand.

Bribing really works? No, really? Go figure. Seriously, go to another dealer.
