brake pads??

Hi Folks, I have just bought a second hand Euro Accord 2.4 with the triple S shift , this is my first post in this forum
Is it common for the front and "rear" brake pads to wear out in the first 20000kms( 12500miles) . The guy at the dealer reckons this is due to the VSA system constantly applyin brakes in the corners.....
What do u think? Have u experienced the same thing ?? I mean front pads yes, but the rears??

Welcome!!!

No, this is VERY SOON for pads to be worn out. I hate to say this, but it sounds like someone was either racing this car or was just incredible hard on brakes.

Explain the triple S shift... I'm not familiar with it.

So when is a good rule of thumb for when you need to change your brakes or get a brake job?

When they're worn out.

It really depends on your driving conditions and habits. I check my pads every time I rotate my tires. Usually you have to do the rotors on the second pad change but many people are upgrading the first time around to either prevent or fix "warped" rotors.

I got my front pads replaced under warranty at 25K miles (40K km). The've started to make noise within 5K miles, yet there's plenty of material left (7mm)... I don't want to spend the money right now to replace them with something else, but it will definitely have to aftermarket. The Honda rotors are crap.

I did this on the first integra I ever owned by using the handbrake to slide out the rear end and also to surprise tailgaters. I think someone's been beating on the brakes.

I would, however check that the calipers are actually floating and not stuck, esp. the rears with the parking brake mechanism.

Thank u for the posts guys, the triple S ( SSS) is your good old Sports Sequential Shift the 5 speed Automatic with the manual mode. Actually, my car
is not the TSX , but the Euro Honda Accord which is quite similar with some minor differences.
I think it's normal for the front pads to wear out, but the rears were 2 my surprise. The dealer's explanation was the VSA applyin the brakes most of the time in the corners. Sounding fishy(concernin the dealer ) as I have driven lots of different types of cars and none of them consumed the rear pads so fast. The previous owner was a 50 year old guy , he might have used the pads more than necessary.
Anyway, I've been very pleased with the Euro up to now, the only gripe is the lack of torque in the lower revs especially in the auto mod, the 6 speed manual is not available where I live. This is not an annoyin problem, but if u get caught in low revs, the supercharged 4 pot Mercs can sometimes worry you
