05 auto high flow cat ?

i've been wanting the random tech high flow cat for some time now, but haven't because some of us have problems with CELs. if i understand correctly, the stock 06/07 catalytic converter has a higher flow than my oem piece. so, IS THE 06/07 CAT A DIRECT REPLACEMENT FOR MY CAR? if so, i'm buying it tomorrow!!!

thanks again everyone,
vinny

Yep, direct replacement, although I don't know of anyone that has done it yet. Since the RT cat fits on the 06, then the 06 cat should fit on the 04/05 with no problems.

You can still get a RT Cat and have no CEL if you run with a defouler.

I'm thinking about dyno testing all 3 Cats, so you can wait for my results if you want to know the performance differences.

Just get the RT cat and a $40 el cheapo scantool to clear the occasional DTC. Or run a pair of anti-foulers between the O2 sensor and the bung. I would be willing to bet the RT cat flows better than the 2006 MY OEM converter does anyway.

There's no doubt that the RT Cat will flow better than the 06 CAT. The big reason why I wanna test an 06 CAT is because I'm in Cali and they've been cracking down on SMOG legal parts in my area. If I lived in another state without all of the CARB rules, I would get the RT CAT, no questions asked.

What if you could buy a Metal cat for a little more than the RT cat?

i think i'd go for it ... what do you propose? another reason to go with 06 cat over rt - it should be quieter.

ANYONE WANNA GET RID OF THEIR CAT?

i'm fairly certain you're correct, but i don't want to have to fuss with all that. i've come to a point where i'm willing to spend a bit extra for peace of mind. you know what i mean? thanks for the input, however

That is all you need. The RT is a bolt on unit. Thread that in first and then the 02 sensor and you will have no issues.

godfather2, I had bigtime recurring CEL problems, but now i've been 8 months without a cel since I put a defouler on. It solved the issue.

Oh, and $13 is ridiculous, I got 2 of them for $3 at my advance auto parts store.

Can the stock cat be removed and hollowed out? I would guess also using the anti-fouler.

The RT cat for the TSX has a metallic substrate.

Yeah, but you'd be destroying a $900 part by doing so. Also a punched-out converter tends to be rough on the inside, increasing turbulence in the exhaust stream and subtracting from performance benefit. You would be much better off with a cheap Magnaflow welded up at a local muffler shop.

Glad to hear that! I should also add that the Magnaflow dyno'd the same as the Random Tech, at least on my car. There was a <1hp difference, which is within the margin of error of the dyno itself.

Does anyone know if the catalytic converters for the Honda Accord's k24's be compatible with our TSX? If so, would they be using the 400 cell cat when they went through a similar power upgrade in 06?

Would the same be true for the K24s used in the truck apps, like the CRV and Element?

Any parts experts know??

According to the 04 4-cyl Accord test pipe on ebay (no longer available), the OAL is longer than the TSX, but the flanges should fit. This means the Accord cat is also longer than the TSX. Not sure about the actual cell numbers.

Thanks Jtso, appreciate it. It'd be interesting to know how much longer, since there is a little bit of play. But the cell count is going to be the most important to know.

Can't find anything so far in my own searches....

Accords, CRV's, Elements....the CRV's had the K24 first, I believe. I believe the we have the highest output K24 though.

That is the test pipe I had bought, fitment was perfect. I received a CEL after about 50 miles of driving before I had time to purchase antifoulers. I bolted two antifoulers on and the cel went away after a couple miles
