White dot on the brake pads

I realized there is a white dot on each of the brake pads that are visible from the outside. Should these white dots be on the top or the bottom? I looked at the picture that I took when I first brought my TSX home and it shows it on the top (front drivers side brake). Could someone who have never had their brakes inspected check this for me? I have a feeling my dealer put the pads in wrong and this is causing the groan noise.

Also, what's a liner? Is there a component in the brake system that is used to eliminate/reduce vibrations?

Thanks

I haven't noticed such white spot. However, I had the pads replaced yesterday under warranty and will check it out.

I believe they are inspection points. If you look under your hood you will see different color dots on different parts of the engine. The dealer told me they are the inspection spots from the factory. Don't know if that's true or just BS.

I couldn't find it.

Here's a close up of the caliper and rotor... the pads are not visible.

Thanks for the replies! I just found out the groaning noise is from cleaning rotors and brakepads during the 16000km brake inspection. This was what the Honda dealer told me and I believe them because the noise is starting to disappear.

Slo007: Thank you for taking the picture. Actually, the white dot is located further down, where the caliper is cut into a semi-circular shape. Wow. How do you keep your brakes so clean? My brake calipers have no shine anymore. Maybe they're just covered in road salt. Hopefully they'll come off when I clean them in the spring.

To be honest, they were machined by the dealer not long ago. They gave me new brake pads too, as the car was vibrating when I pressed the brakes (like to be bad rotors). All at no cost.

I have the white dots on each of the calipers too. I figured they had to be related to some type of inspection.

I have these white paint drips on the calipers. The dealer said they will clean them off during the 16000 km inspection.

Yes they are inspection marks when the car was built.
If you look under your car when new, every single bolt is marked with paint.
It's to make sure the bolts and what not were checked and torqued to spec.

So they normally clean those off on every car before the sale?
