Where are my Fog Lights??

Wow I realy wish I had a camera to record this. I was driving out to Meijers at 1 in the morning and there was so much fog I could see the outline of my HID's about 4 feet in front of me. I couldn't see anything past 20 feet out. And I must say it was the scariest time driving. The very few cars that passed by were barely noticeable. I wish I had my Fog Lights so my HID's wouldnm't blind me... Scary Night.

I think our fog lights aren't for us to see better, it's for oncoming drivers to see us better..

And even then, I used to have those, and they didn't do wonders in that type of very dense fog.

I would change over the fogs to the yellow light. As stated above, even then with the dense fog they would probably only help marginally.

They are really meant for other cars to see you better and not the other way around.

Properly designed, fog lights are supposed to illuminate the road immediately in front of the car when you are driving through socked-in fog, although they can also help in letting others know you're there. They may also help in dense snowfall when your normal headlamps are just "crazing" on the snow. They do not necessarily improve vision for distance sighting. Their intended purpose is in allowing you to see the roadsurface better for, depending upon conditions, as much as a carlength in front of you. They should help you stay in lane, keep from inadvertenly driving into/over curbs, and may help in revealing the car in front of you. I never expect fog lights to do much more than that, and fog that requires that level of illumination requires, for sheer safety sake, very slow driving............... even if your car can light up like a christmas tree.

Fog lights have become a status symbol and something of a fashion accessory for most cars in most locations, and I doubt that very many are properly positioned by the car manufacturers or well-understood by their drivers. They will NOT allow you to drive faster through the fog because you have somehow been given a miraculous capacity to see through it.

I didn't get them on the TSX because, imho, the low-beams accomplish virtually the same thing in the bulk of the driving that I do, although the low light mounting of them is an appropriate place for them, since the intent is to light the road just in front of the car. I am sure that some others who got the fog lights as an accessory may have a different perception, but I had a chance to testdrive my TSX in failing light, and felt the HID's would do the job. So far, so good - with some driving throug mid-level ground fog.
