I invite everyone to check their onboard computers against actual consumption. The easiest, most accurate method goes like this:

1. Next time you visit the gas station, top it off - literally - that is, keep pumping little by little until the fuel comes all the way up to the surface. This is important!
2. Reset your trip computer in the instrument cluster. If you also have the trip computer on the navi screen, reset that as well.
3. Go home, go to work, see a movie, go clubbing, go to Vegas... whatever; just use up your fuel.
4. Next time you're at the gas station, repeat step #1, only this time keep your receipt.
5. Compare the receipt to whatever the dashboard indicates.

And then, of course, let us know. I'll do the same thing.

I do not think so-If I had completed the purchase of my 06 as originally planned (11/2/06) it would have been covered. I live in NC and bought it in PA (that dealer did a dealer trade to get the one I wanted from a dealer in jersey. Oh well, car is excellent (knock-on-wood)

I get 23/24 mpg city and with combined city highway I get 26/27 mpg. I rarely take all highway trips so I'm not sure what that is.

'07 Automatic with ~10,000 miles. We've been getting 35mpg on the highway doing 70mph, and with mixed driving have averaged from 29 to 32mpg.

i have 2006 5AT. average around 26mpg with 90% highway and 10% city. i m sure i can get 27 or 28 if i just stay under 75mph but it's hard.... !!!! i usually do around 80 or 85, sometimes if i get to follow some " brave ones " i even go up to 90~95. i also notice our car has pretty bad mpg for city driving compare to other 4 cylinder cars.... cuz our car is too heavy for a 2.4L to pull and stop constantly...

I just filled up again at 1292 mi. I drove 351.4 mi. since my last fill up and according to fueleconomy.gov, I'm at 26.1 mpg. According to the MID, I was at 28.6 mpg. Of the 351 miles, I drove 260 of them on the highway.

How do you guys/gals calculate how much of your driving was highway? I just guesstimate. Open to suggestions. (Guess I could use the trip odometer each morning once I hit 60 mph, but I'm not quite that anal retentive.)

hmm, my 08 TLS gets 23 mpg on a whole tank usually with 60% freeway and 40% local, i cant believe some of the TSX owner here getting below 20 with mix driving.

Another fill up. Less highway driving this time. Prob 80% City and 20% Highway. Light came on at about 300 miles and I drove another 50 before I filled up. I filled it with 15 gallons.

I always (and I mean always...) keep track of my mileage. Immaculate records were drilled into my head by my dad Decided the other month to add the car's mpg estimate to my car's notebook as I was curious.

2007, auto, stock, just hit 3300 this past weekend (so barely getting broken in)

Display: 22.3 Actual: 21.489 (mostly city, short trips)
Display: 20.4 Actual: 18.984 (mostly city, really short trips during really cold weather)
Display: 21.7 Actual: 20.162 (mostly city, short trips)
Display: 27.7 Actual: 25.569 (mostly hwy in driving rain and then heavy traffic)
Display: 28.7 Actual: 26.706 (mostly hwy, had steady side/head wind for most of drive)

Geez i get around 23-26 mixed driving, and premium here is 3.83 filled up about 60 dollars for a full tank that is outrageous, with chevron gas, cheapest gas i could find around where i live.

Just filled up with BP after driving some more Shell 93, over 357.2 miles I only averaged 27.2 MPG. Mixed driving, maybe more than normal city (35-45 MPH) since my daughter's visiting. So far, I'm not sold on "higher mileage" with Shell, but the engine sure sounds zippier. I may switch to BP or Shell as available (and economical) if only because I'm now strongly suspicious that Costco and BJ's gas is not as good.

2006 6 speed.

On a road trip with 100% hwy, I might be able to manage 34-35 mpg.

My regular commute gets me about 28 mpg, 70/30 hwy/local.

Mostly local and I'll get 22-23 mpg.


Note for those who are going by the MID. It is usually optimistic by 1.5-2 mpg.
Do NOT rely on it.

Since this seems to be the most popular gas mileage thread I will post results here instead of the Shell V-Power thread. I filled up on Monday and tried to "top off" my tank. I got real nervous after I added a little over half a gallon after the first "shut off". I figure I will add a tenth of a gallon each time I fill up until eventually I see gas so I will know how much more I can feed the tank from initial shut off.

My indicator light came on at 402 miles and I stopped to fill up at 472 miles. I put in 15.3 gallons of Shell V-Power 93. The initial shut off happened at 14.789 gallons. So by "old" standards I got 31.9 MPG. Factor in the "top off" and I got 30.8 MPG. Either way I will take it any day of the week. That tank was Exxon 93, BTW. My driving is normally 80% highway and 20% city.

As a bit of a hypermiler, i get around 35mpg on the highway, and I can usually hold my average above 29mpg in the city. I also mix about 2oz of acetone with each tank, and change plugs every 30k. 04 TSX 6spd 98,000 miles. I only use BP or Mobil.

I'm not sure the Elvis method of topping off ("Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh") is accurate, as how do you know if you're hitting the same spot? I use the pumps auto shutoff, as I suspect each pump is inserting the same distance. This presumes that the shutoff mechanism is the same from one pump at one station to the others, and another station. Would a Dr. Science care to explain the shutoff mechanisms' operation to us?

QUESTION: I was wondering how to gauge what % of my driving is highway, what % is city.... I realized that my MID info display is giving me an AVG SPD for each tankful ... would something like 40 MPH AVG SPD (when my usual highway speed is 70 MPH) translate to 57% (40/70) city driving?

I was planning on using the same pump at the same station for awhile in order to compare MPG. This station typically has the best prices for brand name gas on my commute.

Your question raises another point that I have thought about recently. The term "highway driving" could suggest one of two things: either a 4+ lane interstate (freeway) where the speed limit is typically 70 MPH or a 2 lane highway where the speed limit is typically 55 MPH. My commute is mainly the latter. I never drive on the interstate during my commute. Because you would tend to get better gas mileage on a 2 lane highway than on an interstate, I think we need a clarification of terms. Or am I the only person that has a 2 lane highway commute?

im only getting around 17 for 95% city 5% hwy and i drive really aggressively...i have a 08 6sp mt but im only suppose to get 19 - any one else drive 95% city?

Calculated MPG (miles driven / gallons used): ~23MPG

I do 90% city.

Edit: This is on a 2006 A/T, rarely aggressively driven.

to help out with your MPG make sure your spark plugs are good and air filter and make sure oil changes are always on time and keep tire pressures at correct specs and you guys will get better gas mileage aswell...just to help out....

2008 5AT w/1250 miles

So far mileage is 19.5 around town and on the 2 lengthy freeway trips it as been driven, were at 30mpg at a cruise of 78mph. Past experience with Honda products will tell me I will see a couple mile per gallon increase at the 10,000 mile mark.

I drive mostly highway at 75-80 mph. My 04 6MT with 98k miles constantly gives ~400 miles/tank. If I do more city driving that goes way down, and if I drive slower on the highway (70-75mph) I can eek out a bit more.

You know, I've started sticking to the speed limit... crazy, I know, I used to do 85 in 55 zones all day long... and damn if my mileage isn't better. I'm 320 miles into a tank right now and have a quarter tank left on the gauge, which means I really have about 7 gallons left... so with 160 HW miles (@55/65) and 160 city miles, I'm getting about 32mpg. Not bad.

Oh, and I'm definitely babying it. I've probably VTEC'd the car once, maybe twice on this tank.

I have only had my 04 tsx for about a month but I am averaging 28-30 mpg on 70% highway. I use cruise control a lot because I have a longer commute and it definitely has been helping my gas mileage.

I am new to these forums but can someone comment on about how much fuel is left when the light comes on. I was really surprised how soon that light came on compared to my old vehicle.

I think it's safe to say there's at least 3 gallons left in the tank of my 04 when the light comes on. When the needle is on E, it's about 1 gallon.

Not really sure what the point of having it come on so early is...

dang u guys are still lower than i am for gas. lol i am at 4.09 right now. and diesel is like 4.40. the max i have gotten on the free way was about 38. that was at like 70 on hella flat freeway. lol i average 25-28 50/50 on freeway and city. 06 6mt
