What da heck?

I have a CGP 05 TSX with OEM kit.

So I was setting up my tradeshow booth in the convention centre with my TSX moving boxes fromt he car to the booth etc. There's this guy that's in his 50s coming over and say, "nice car you have there". Then I responded with the usual answer, "thanks." What surprised me was his next sentence..."I just bought my son a Pontiac G6 and it looks just the same as your car." I mean, WTF...both cars are completely different. I almost had to chuck the boxes in his face. Size wise, it's similar, but besides that...nothing is the same. Sounded more like an insult to me!

Dude's 50 and just bought a Pontiac G6 and is trying to justify his purchase. Cut the old idiot some slack.

Years ago, my dad would always complain that japanese cars were copying american cars, and that you can hardly tell which was which anymore =P

The older generation of people aren't so good about cars. Or maybe the old guy was thinking that it looks just as expensive as his son's car...or as shiny...or has the same color...

Careful what you say about us geezers - just remember that old age and treachery
wins over youth and exuberance every time.

FWIW, I looked at G6s and and other GM models and picked the TSX anyhow.
And yes, I lived thru WWII, and caving in to buying a Japanese car was a bitter
pill to swallow.

There is a guy at my college (in Michigan) who refuses to buy Japanese cars, when I asked him why , he responded with "Well, my Dad was in WW2".

He drives a BMW. Obviously Germany wasn't in WW2.

lol.

My dad was a little boy in the Philippines when it was occupied by the Japanese. He told stories about how they would get pliers and pull off your fingernails for information, etc.

We were a solely european and american car family because of my dad. However, the cars would break down every few months...eventually my mom decided to get a honda against my dad's wishes....and we've been buying honda's ever since. We have never had a breakdown, even if we don't change the oil on a honda for 2 years which is used for a 25-mile daily commute (1-way...so 50 miles a day). Spark plug shot out once and dented the hood, but the car kept going...

our mercedes decided to stop braking and also go in reverse (at the same time). Imagine my surprise when I couldn't slow down for a turn all of a sudden. Our saab decided to die during a cruise (rewiring the spark plug order on the distributor somehow got it working again *shrugs*). Our dodge minivan stopped working when we went out to a lake...we had to spend all day waiting for a tow truck to come and find us. Alot of times the car broke down with traffic bearing down on us, which is what got us pretty scared of american cars =P

That's one old Dad. WWII ended in 1945. If your friend is a typical age for a college student, say 21, he was born around 1986. This guy is having kids in his sixties. Yikes! I thought I did it late (first child at 40).

That old guy just probably regretted his purchase and maybe didn't know about the TSX.

it's called buyer's remorse...or perhaps he's just trying to justify his purchase by thinking it's more expensive than it actually cost him

i generally respond back to those comments with the "oh yeah i had one of those, horrible reliability so i pick this tsx up, looks the same but better reliability" that usually shuts them up...

By your description of events it sounds to me like the guy was just giving you a compliment and making small talk. Since he was so ancient he probably didn't realize how fragile your ego was that you would misconstrue his friendliness as an insult. Too bad you didn't chuck those boxes at him; that would have really taught him a lesson....

I posted on here a few months back that the concept TSX looks like a G6 and had my head bitten off. A lot of you here are definately self conscious about the comparison.

You shouldn't be offended at the comparison as people are referring to their apearance, not the quality of build. Obviously you can't tell a whole lot about the quality of a car by looking at the exterior.

I've have actualy since drove both, a rental G6 and a loaner TSX. The G6 has horrid blind spots and very little forward visibilty, feels cramped, has dumb stearing and no feel of the road, although it is a peppy car. The TSX has non of those issues and is a perfect car as far as I'm concerned. I'll miss the go-cart feel of the Integra but you can't have everything.

I plan to buy a TSX in four weeks and came here to see what people paid for it in order to aid in my negotiations.

Have a beer.

yup you are correct. the current TSX looks like the G6 in the term that both are 4 dr sedans!

the TL is the car that most people think my TSX is.

Now, if you had been driving an Altima Coupe, maybe the guy could have been confused with the G6. Not sure how he could mix up the TSX with the G6, but so be it... in the end, we all know who has the nice car, and who doesn't!
