TSX Owners: What Car Did You Come From?
I came from a 1999 126 HP RT4WD CR-V. God I love my new ride. I can't believe I've driven an SUV w/ a civic engine for so many years...

2000 Dodge Intrepid.
The 4 Cyl in the TSX is faster then the 6 Cyl in the Intrepid. More room obviously in the Dodge.

yeahh dudes it was ghetto, it even had a wrench to open the window. Though it did get close to 40 mpg, and loved to be forcivly thrown into low gears at high speeds.
oh yeah i also drove a 2004 pathfinder, gotta love that truck, it drives like a sports car, a gigantic slopy sports car.

Excellent on the road, very stable and quiet with Michelin Pilots (replaced OEM at 24.5K). A big lemon, though. I had every problem on the book, mechanical, electrical, body, seat belts (locked up and had to be cut), instrument cluster (3 dead ones), brakes, windows, engine coils, etc.
The TSX has been 90% reliable. I still have a raddle coming from the back right. I need someone to go out with me one day and look for the culprit. And the windshield will surely rattle this winter again... Biggest flaw I found is the driver's seat, which moves 50% of the left turns (never on right ones) -- and the dealership claims is normal.
I bought a warranty extension, just in case.

Actually the TSX is my wife's car and we used to have a 99 Prelude 5sp. We love it a lot and we still miss it a lot but it is kind of not partical to have a Prelude as our primary car! Our back up car is a 00 328i which is so un-reliable and too small to be our primary car.

Hopefully, I will soon have a TSX. I am told that it is in New Mexico heading in my direction.
I recently sold a 1966 Pontiac GTO (389 custom engine) for a lot more than what it cost in 1966 (talking about reverse depreciation). I had a fan clutch (for the radiator) fail on a trip to Florida. In took me about two hours to replace it. The transmission started slipping and was rebuilt. The nylon teeth on the timing gear stripped off (as could be expected) and bent all the push rods. Those were the only problems with the car other than the normal; brakes, alternator, A/C fan blower, starter, and batteries. The only time I was left stranded was when the timing gear failed. I allowed the car to overheat on a couple of occassions and that probably contributed to the failure of the transmission.
I currently have a 1984 Pontiac 6000 with Tech-4 engine. The 2004 taxes on the 6000 were $4.00. It has been to Mexico, Canada, Key West, New York, Texas and has never given me a single problem other than the normal; brakes, alternator, starter, batteries. No recalls, no defects, 100 percent reliability and dependability over a 20 year span. Never left me stranded and never stalled on me. Will handle snow and ice remarkably well -- 10 times better than the GTO.
My wife has a 1990 Grand Am with a Quad-4 that I drive more than she does. The head gasket was replaced under warranty. Part of the spark box had to be replaced because the original would break down under the high voltage (minor in both time and cost). The water pump seals have just started leaking ($650.00 for materials and labor). It also has never left me stranded without transportation. I hope the TSX does as well.
So, the TSX will be the first non-domestic car for me. I hope it lives up to my expectations. We will be replacing the Grand Am in a year, or two, and a second TSX is currently at the top of my list. I don't see very many other choices that appeal to me; perhaps a TL, Buick La Sabre GT, or Maxima. The SUV craze has killed the choices in automobiles. Pontiac is dumping the Grand Am in 2005 and replacing it with a car that looks similar to the TSX and has a name that sounds like it should be a Mazda; the Pontiac G-6. There will be both 2 door and 4 door versions. I have eliminated the G-6 from consideration for two reasons: 1) the dash is not easy on the eyes and 2) I have no interest in buying a new Pontiac that is a completely new design in it's first year. I just don't trust Pontiac to get it "right" without some feedback and refinements (the Ford Focus comes to mind). Also, the price is a factor.
I know that Acura folks don't think much of a Grand Am, but the Grand Am was, in previous years, an excellent value. CAI was standard. The engine will rev just as fast and just as easy as the TSX engine and the car will scoot when you want it to. The engine is easy to service; from changing starters to changing oil -- but not water pumps. It appears that the MSRP on the GTP version (175 horsepower) G-6 will be around 26K; putting it in the same price range as the TSX. At that point, it becomes a no-brainer.
When we got married, my wife had a 1966 326 Le Mans. It was sold, along with the GTO. Both the GTO and the Le Mans were two door hard tops. They were both built on the Pontiac Tempest body.

Most recently:
- 1998 Audi A4 Quattro wagon, 190hp V6, tiptronic
- 2001 Audi TT Quattro convertible, 225hp, 6 speed
Sold them both the same week, before buying the TSX. Decided I didn't need a wagon anymore, and definitely no longer in a position where I care much about AWD. It was nice to have a convertible for a few years too, everybody should do it once in their lives, and the price I paid was incredible. But once in my life for a few years was enough and with the warranty about to go, it seemed like a nice idea to get rid of it. Sold them both, bought the TSX and still walked away with some decent cash.
Prior vehicles:
- 1994 Audi 90 Quattro, V6, 5-speed, never the same after a bad accident, and the stick became really cumbersome to deal with in SF and Silicon Valley
- 1990 Saab 900 turbo, 3-door, 5-speed
- 1998 Audi A4 Quattro wagon, 190hp V6, tiptronic
- 2001 Audi TT Quattro convertible, 225hp, 6 speed

'96 Acura Integra LS 2dr 4AT. Purchased in '98 with 23k miles for ~$16k, traded in today for TSX with 63k miles for $5200. I'll miss it. But, having put 100 miles on my TSX today, I don't think I'll miss it for long (except when I go to look to buy an xmas tree - the only time I really used the hatch the last several years). Only 1 mechanical problem with the Integra: had to replace the radiator.

Addressing the CR-V's most frequently cited shortcoming, Honda has found 20 more horsepower in its 2.0-liter DOHC engine. A redesigned column shifter with overdrive switch is new on CR-Vs with automatic transmissions, while all models feature a more durable spare tire cover, new seat fabric, adjustable rear armrests and cup holders in the rear door panels.
