TSX Owners: What Car Did You Come From?
#122
I miss my 03 CL-S :(
I had a 2003 Acura 3.2 CL Type-S before my TSX. I loved that car.
Had it for a little over 2 years before this happened and I got the TSX to replace it.
The TSX is nice, but I still miss my baby

Not really MY car, but before i got my TSX i was driving a 96 maxima GLE. Lemme tell you, that thing was fun as hell. Didnt have to worry about it like my TSX, i could do anything with it. It's seen hell and back and still runs with over 110k miles, all of which were abusive. ( i only put on like 2-3k of those miles...) (many of which were in snow storms!!)

I guess I'll add my name to the list as I dont check the boards as often as most. I came out of a 1999 3.0 CL. I loved the car, but thought the stereo lacked bottom end for a Bose. Also hated the way the cell phone would cause a irritating beep beep when it rang, problems both absent in my TSX. Traded it in because the mileage was up there and with the birth of my son comming, I need something, ahem, larger. At least thats the excuse I gave my wife. Ironically, thats the same excuse she's giving me now that she test drove and fell in love with the FX35.

Still have a silver 2003 CR-V, affectionately known as "Silver". The wife loves it and its the best bad weather car I have ever driven. Wife and I were stuck driving home at night in northern West Virginia during the "President's Day Storm" of 2003. That car was awesome. I was able to do about 30mph on a good half a foot to a foot snowpack that was interstate 79, with very little slippage, even up and down some steep slopes. I saw several other SUV's not make it. We have put 50,000 miles on it in a year and a half with no problems at all. Made me a believer in Honda products.
Until last week, when we bought the TSX, we had just the CR-V. My old car was a Pontiac Grand Prick. The cars transmission died 2,000 miles over the 36,000 mile warranty and they wouldn't give me any slack. I was (emphasis on the WAS) a bigtime Pontiac fan, too. Before that, I had a firebird that was a great car (which, Im told, I was lucky, most F-series were lousy, but mine was great for over 10 years). I thus told Generous Motors where to stick it and I ain't ever goin back!

93.5 Infiniti G20 5 speed. Great car...had 177K when some Air Force mommy decided to blow a red light and nailed me at 45MPH.
Good handling...not a great engine but the 5 speed enabled you to work the engine some. Needless to say...it was a nice step up to the TSX

2001VW Jetta GLX V6, pocket rocket, but electronics killed all the fun outta it.
1999 Mazda Millenia, inherited from someone who was invited to leave my firm to consider alternatives, creampuff interior, lackluster performance and sloppy handling
Mercury Mystique: fun car to handle, V6 and loaded interior, never caught on in this country - had a couple of these but the office clerk kept wrecking them
Mercury Sable - had several of these, kept getting bigger and bigger
Before that
Toyota Celica from the first run availble in this country, got it with 95,000 miles
Chevy Vega
Saab 93
Ford Custom
Learned to drive on a
VW Minibus
Mercedes 250 S

My parents still talk about their good 'ol International Scout. I think it's tied with their 1990 Suburban for their favorite car ever.

2. I drive company cars, and we cannot be seen arriving at our client's offices driving swank cars, as it makes them think our fees are too big (most of my firm's work is in the public sector and private non-profits) and then we get screwed around on the fee the next time we come into the door..................
3. Such excess income as I have goes into stuff other than expensive cars (expensive designer furnture, original art that I can't afford, books, travel)
4. Architects to not make as much as people think we do
5. The president of my firm usually drives one of the larger Volvos, and few of us feel like trumping him
6. I've always lived in the city where expensive cars are targets for vandalism, theft and carjacking
7. Architects are paid a pittance in comparison to attorneys and physicans with similar experience. Most architects are broke, but live in great style - partially because what little discretionary income we have goes to designer furniture and loving restorations of urban housing. Ever watch an architect pick light fixtures for his/her own home? Or hardware?.It's amazing. We think nothing of buying stuff for our homes that represents the national debt of one of the smaller Balkan countries, and then - rip it out a few years later because - the ethos is just not right. My wife can comment on that.........My wife throws things away because they are falling apart (generally after four generations), I throw them away (generally after four years) because the lines of the stuff no longer move me................ A home is a research laboratory, and some aesthetic experiments just don't work out.
8. Architects who inherit great wealth have the joy of working until it runs out.
9. When the economy is good, we work our asses off to save up money for when the market is bad, at which point architectural firms shed staff like melting snow in August. I've survived several recessions that routinely decimate my profession, and - of the 22 classmates that I graduated with in 1972, four are practicing architecture in the traditional sense. The rest have the good sense to go into something else.
10. Because we have good taste (whatever that is) beaten into us in at least five years of schooling, we send our children to schools that are tasteful - parent's day at two of the private (quaker and episcopal, respectively) in Philadelphia resembles a convention of the American Institute of Architects)
11. Personally, I don't like big cars, and although I don't go around getting nuts about it, I think driving bad-ass fat cars and SUV's in the city is a bit abusive of the environment. I will probably switch to hybreds before very long, thoght about it this time around.
12. I like the contradiction of driving a small, slightly badass car that is unexpected for someone of my baldness. I like very small compact cars that are visually understated, but have every luxogadget that I can jam into them (secretly, I regret not getting thte navi, but I wouldn't tell that....)
13. Archtitects are just not paid as much as people think we are.
The Mercedes I learned to drive on was my dad's, as was the I-Scout, arguably the worst SUV ever made except for the ones that tipped over a lot. But it got through the snow in South Dakota, and later climbed mountains in New Mexico. I sold it for $50 when I closed my late parent's place down....................
Sorry for the rant, but it's late.............
And by the way, on that other thread, congrats are in order!

Finally got the pictures off of my dad's camera so I thought I'd add my contribution. Old car was a 96 Accord LX aka "By Baby" This car got me through 4 1/2 years of college without ever a complaint.
Then on Halloween right before graduation, my fiance (at the time girlfriend) and two best friends were coming back from a party in Charlotte. It was about 4:30 in the morning and she was driving. I was hammered and asleep in the passenger seat. She fell asleep and work up when the car started to go off the rode. The cocked the wheel hard left with the cruise locked on 75 and spun us twice. We slid backwarks in the dewey grass on the other side into the median. We weren't going that fast but the guardrails were made of these three thick wire cables that somehow went over and around the car and managed to mangle all but one body panel. The engine and everything was fine but the body damage was heavy so insurance totalled it. It was a very sad night for me.
Ironcially, I didn't even wake up though the entire thing. I'm kinda pissed about that because I would've at least liked to of been awake when my car was totalled. Apparently, CD's flew outta the visor pocket and smaked me in the face and I didn't budge (gotta love that tequilia ) But luckily, no one got hurt, we all just stumpled out. It took me a few minutes to figure out what had happened because she was screaming and I had thought we pulled over to go to the bathroom or something until I tried to open my door and it wouldn't open. Then I noticed I had so side mirror. That's about when my adrenaline hit. Anyway, enough story and on with the pictures!
And finally, the day I picked up the new love of my life!
Thank god a had my post college job lined up by then so it wasn't a total disaster. I guess things work in misterious ways. And I wish I knew what the hell Acura put on my freakin wheels to make them look so good. I think I've tried everything.

My wife and I have shared 1 car for the past 5 years. We had a 2001 Ford Explorer and then along came the kids and we went with a Honda Odyssey. Now I have the TSX for myself. What a great car!!!!
#157
2002 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE. This car was very unreliable and it handled very bad on anything other than perfectly smooth roads. The TSX is a huge improvement in every way except power, when it ran, that 3.5 really hauled.

I traded a 1993 Accord EX sedan for the TSX in May 2003. Besides the TSX, I have a 2004 Volvo V70 for my wife.
Other cars I've owned - 2002 Buick Rendezvous (lemon lawed), 1994 Mazda Miata (still in the family), 1991 Nissan Sentra SE-R, 1988 Honda CRX-Si, 1986 Honda CRX-Si (with Jackson Racing cam, header, exhaust), and a 1979 Alfa Romeo Spider.
I drive a company car during the week, so the TSX should last me many years...or until I get the "3 year itch" for something new.
By The Way: majin ssj eric - I just noticed you're from St. Simons Island. I have some fond memories of Glynco/FLETC...
