Smile 2005 TL 6MT - HID headlights missing cutoff lines

hi there, my TL HID headlights had at one time the step cutoff line which is distinct. Now the lights are bright but just a big oval lighted up area when aiming at a wall. I have not found any info how to get the cutoff line back. All light parts are original but bulbs might have been changed in the past years. The head light lenses are clear. I removed the circular back cover of the light bulb area to look in but both sides look same and nothing looks broken. Any ideas where to start?

Can you show a pic of the headlights against the wall from 20 feet?

how to remove the light above the cutoff line, blue arch shows 'leaking' light above the cutoff line. I used a grey filter to make the cutoff line visible. but when looked at with the eye the cutoff line is not visible. just one large bright spot.

How bad / faded are headlights? Are bulbs seated correctly? It just looks like you have high beams on.

ty for the feedback, headlight housing lense are crystal clear and these are the low beam lights on. when high beams are turned on the HID turn off(I believe). not sure about bulbs but they should be seated properly as spring/clamp is holding bulbs.

HID stay on and only the shield drops down . Csn you take a picnof the headlights with the high beam on and off. . Have you replaced the bulbs recently, definitely possible for them to be seated improperly

Block each side to compare. I can see some cut-off line hiding in there, so the bulbs are most likely seated correctly. When they aren’t seated correctly, those lines are non-existent and there is usually a real wonky hot spot. This looks more like super glare…which makes me think damaged lens. Not sure if the front plastic one or the actual projector lens.

Looking at the pic, it kind of looks like the passenger light might be the one still throwing the cut-off correctly and the driver’s side one is not?

I checked the bulbs and they are seated flush and keyed properly. when switching low to hi beams I hear clicks and the light output changes. images are below, I took off the bumper and removed the light assemblies. checked the shield inside the lamp and it moves freely up and down with the finger. both light assembly lenses(outside) are clear and looking through the projector lenses i do not see any damage/cracks(both look the same).. I can take pics of the headlights if that will help with diagnosis....

high beams

low beams

From your low beam pic, they look fine to me. Other than the driver’s side light appears to be low. I am still going to bet your outside lens has haze on it. This is what mine looked like until I got that cleaned up. There was still lots of light output, but it was not focused and crisp anymore. Once I got the outer lens cleaned up, everything was back to normal once again.
