Question TSX Keys

For those of you who are currently owners of the TSX, does it carry the same feature as the Honda Accord with regards to the Keys?

The new Accord has the alarm or remote system built into the key...this eliminates the extra alarm attachment.

Can anyone confirm?

Thanks!

The TSX uses a separate key-fob for remote keyless functions.

Right, and the fob does everything the Accord key does.

Opinons differ on this issue. Many TSX owners seem to want an Accord-like key. Personally, I like the fob better since it seems to fit easier in my pocket.

Thanks Lee!

I don't know why Acura didn't integrate that feature in. Perhaps it will be available on the 2005 models (or not) .

That will probably happen. But, like I said, the seperate fob is no big deal and some (like myself) prefer it.

WHAT!!! Are you serious the accord has the key integrated with the FOB! That was one thing I was very disspointed with. Even VW has it, but that was ok until I found out that their lower class honda has it! When I first say it on the lexus, I loved it.

yeah i'm not sure what the thinking was there but both the TSX and MDX have separate key/fob...actually looks similar to the key/fob of the older generation accord

Geeze, an integrated key/fob means replacement keys would be very expensive. Has anyone priced these for the Accord?

Does the TSX key have any electronics in the key itself?

Yes. The key has a microchip that sends a signal to the imobilizer device. The TSX keys are still expensive to replace.

A couple summers ago a friend of mine had a rented minivan on his holidays. Only got one key with it and he lost it swimming in the ocean (stuff happens). The van had to be towed on a flatbed 3hrs to the nearest dealer to be reset as the van AND new key had to both be at the dealer to be programmed together. How nice.

When I was picking up my TSX back in June, I talked to my salesguy about this question; having an integrated key. For as much as a salesman might or might not know about his business's decisions, he stated that Acura just doesn't do the integrated key and fob.

Thought it was a pig-headed answer, but that's what I got

Anyway, my buddy's sister has the Accord with the integrated fob and let me just say, it isn't any less "bulky" than our key and fob.

The fob isn't something that has really concerned me either way.

Is it possible to have the dealership re-program the TSX to work with an Accord key/fob?

Maybe, but I doubt the dealership could do it right away. Pretty much you'd have the provide the instructions for them and have them use their equipment.

This is a question that has been discussed at many a location and I think the final conclusion from those discussions is that it costs a lot of money to get one of the integrated key/remote setups replaced. If you loose one, expect to shell out at least a few hundred dollars to have it replaced.

Personally, I like having the two separate. For me, it's a lot less bulky to carry around. I might think differently if the Accord key folded up or if it was as integrated as the Saab key.

That's a key point as the Honda Key Does not fold, while others Like VW and Saab fold into a nice rectangle with a switchblade like action to unleash the key.

The BMW Key is pretty cool too

Actually, the Saab key doesn't fold. It's similar to the 7-series key in that that whole fob is a key, though not quite. It was really nifty when the lady at the Saab dealership showed it to me. However, I'm all for the adage "if ain't broke, don't fix it".

Yes. Our fob looks amost exactly the same (except for the addition of a panic button) but just separated from the key.

I personally prefer the Mercedes-Benz Smartkey. Its completely electronic and has all the remote functions integrated into one fob. Further, it doesn't have the added bulk of the Lexus, BMW, or Honda keys--it's pretty small. I wouldn't really call it a key--it's more of a remote. Further, it's practically (or it IS) impossible to break into and start a Mercedes vehicle with a smart key system.

Click here for a SmartKey demonstration.

Have to admit though...I'd prefer having the remote functions integrated into the key--no matter what form it's in. It's pretty nice.

i personally like all the mercedes keys. the smartkey which really isn't a car metal key anyways. i saw it on the E class, plus if some people try to mess around with you, you could pull out your mercedes key and prop it open like a pocket knife and show them who's boss.

I had to replace an integrated remote key and ignition lockset on a car a few years ago, and the tab ran to about $350 - not a cheap proposition, and not one you have a lot of choice over....................

I think the whole FOB thing is a deterrent to keep the Acura car key seperate from other keys. The manual says not to use a metal keychain and seperate from other keys. Might have something to do with screwing up the embedded microchip in the key.

I had an aftermarket alarm installed, so I'm glad the OEM Fob was seperate from the key, so I could replace it with the aftermarket alarm remote. (It does everything the OEM one did and now I can roll the windows up with the remote )
