TSX fuel gauge

This isn't a measure of gas mileage, but just curious how many miles are you at when the fuel gauge on your TSX starts to move after you have filled your tank all the way up to full?

Today after I filled up the car up to full this morning, the gauge started to move after I hit 48 miles on my trip to work doing 80% highway/20% city because I reset my trip A computer and just wanted to see.

How about you?

Mine starts moving around 30 miles city driving, 40-50 highway. It took me a while to get used to as my last car stayed "full" for about 60-100 miles!

Mine moves pretty early, somewhere around 20-30 miles.

Lead foot!!!

Typically mine moves the same as mentioned by derbaff. When the needle just hits the tip of the gas pump icon, I should be at 100 miles, when it hits the "1/2 way" mark I should be near 200, and by empty, if given these, I'm at 400 miles.

derbaff said his/her LAST car would stay full for 100 miles, not his TSX. I think if a car stays full for that long, it's because of one of 3 things: inaccurate fuel gauge, topped off the tank (and messed up the environment), or you only use the TSX for highway miles and trips that are at least an hour or two long.

I think my fuel gauge stays full for a while, and then drops down to the actual fuel level after a while. It then drops down slowly. By around 1/2 tank, it starts dropping down quickly. It seems like it's trying to psychologically psych me out...lol

^^Topping off a tank doesn't mess up the environment. Scientists trying to maintain their government funding by stating such are the biggest pollutants we have.

If there was a way to shove more gas in the tank, I'd be doing it. After the first click, I get in about another 0.5-0.75 gallons.

Based on your mileage, looks like I'm the one with the lead foot. I know my Avon Tech M500s are killing me a little too. Those are some heavy damn tires, eventhough they perform great.

if it wasn't for rush hr traffic going home, i could probably maybe get away with only filling up the TSX once a week. cause i drive 101 miles a day, maybe i could push it from Full to Empty on one tank.

My mileage is mostly from mixed driving (except the all-highway run I did last year when I almost got 35mpg). I've averaged 27mpg, and the lowest I've gotten was 23mpg (around 75%city driving).

How badly has your fuel economy dropped with the Avon's?

Right after Hondata, I routinely got 26-27mpg. Put the Avons on and now I'm lucky to get 25mpg. I did also go from mostly highway to state route, but I did have a few weeks with the Avons on the mostly highway and it was barely 25mpg after rounding up.

The tires are 4lbs heavy ea than my ES100s. For a trip to MI, I got 30mpg even and that is cruise control locked at 75mph.

I totally agree. I have been doing it for years, and continue to do it with my TSX. If you know what the hell you're doing, and don't spill, it's not a problem at all.

B/c I top off (2.5-2.75 gallons after auto shutoff, believe it or not) and get excellent mileage, I can exceed at this thread. Maybe not as good as sauseman, but I would say better than most.

Needle starts moving off "F" around 95 miles mixed, 120 miles hwy. I'm exactly at the halfway mark 270 miles mixed, 310 miles hwy...on average. Anybody who doesn't believe me I'll post pictures. Average Fuel economy (calculated) is 25-30 mpg mixed, 31-38 mpg hwy

Mine moves at about 34 miles after I fill it up using a mix of freeway and local driving.

It's not the "spilling" per se that affects the environment. When you overfill the tank you are throwing vapors and fuel into the charcoal evap canister under the hood. Eventually that has to "vent off" into the atmosphere and that is when you are polluting from what I understand.

I dunno. I never believed it either. Now I just don't overfill - after the first click the car is usually reading a solid, full F anyways.

My last car was Neon. The fuel gauge wouldn't move from full until about a 100 miles, then it dropped fairly quickly (I got about 300 miles on a tank with that car). So I guess that would be an inaccurate fuel gauge, although seeing it "full" for so long was kind of nice! I never topped off the tank, though the previous owner might have.

The evap canister shouldn't vent to the atmosphere. Instead, it purges back to the engine and burn via the evap purge valve.

It is what is is, a cheap economy car with decent gas mileage and plenty of rattles. it got me through college until i could afford something decent.
