TSX or Accord?

I know this can't be a new argument, but I've been through this site enough and haven't seen a detailed comparison of the TSX to the Accord on features, price AND style. This is the inner debate I have to answer before I buy a car in the next 3 weeks:

'04 TSX:
POSITIVE:
30 more hp (than the 4-banger Accord EX w/ leather)
sweet look
nice butt :gheyfight:
acura name plate
no goofy-ass radio w/ giant knobs
Will piss-off my wife's ex.
NEGATIVE:
No XM
No heated exterior mirrors
costs 2K more

'05 ACCORD
POSITIVE:
XM
key-in-fob :killer:
heated ex mirrors
$2000 cheaper
NEGATIVE:
Goofy-ass radio w/ giant knobs
ugly butt
cheap breaks
EVERYBODY has one

What else is there? Why should I get a TSX instead of the Accord??? My gut tells me I want the TSX...my brain is asking whether its the prudent decision.

Please elaborate more on that!!

As for the question, get the TSX b/c:
1. you won't see 100 of them everyday
2. b/c is is nimbler and more fun to drive
3. it looks better than the J. Lo butt the Accord has

Take it from an Accord coupe owner, I still wished i would've bought the TSX but it wasn't even out yet and I needed a car quick.

This one is especially helpful.

There are simply too many to list. But I guess there's no harm in keeping this thread open, if there's participation.

I would never consider an Accord over my TSX. You can get the XM put into the smaller storage bay in the dash as shown on this website...the TSX will age much more gracefully than most of the cars on the market, in my humble opinion.

You'll probably see that I say this alot when you go through those old threads, but my thought is: drive both back to back. If you feel that the difference in performance is not appreciable, don't waste your money - buy the Accord

if you really LOOKED over and compared both cars and still has so much doubts/thoughts as to open up another thread on this topic, then I really think you should stay on the $$$-wise side and get the Accord.

Styling must factor into the decesion as well though. The rear-end on the Accord Sedan is completely unacceptable IMO. That rear end was the only thing that kept me from buying an Accord EX V6 in the first place.

gray_w_black,

Your handle could have been "gray_vs_black".

If you want economy, get the 4 cyl. Accord.

If you want acceleration, get the 6 cyl. Accord.

If you want a larger car, get the Accord.

If you want a color that is not available on the TSX, get the Accord.

If you want a car built in the USA, get the Accord.

If you want handling, get the TSX.

If you want styling, get the TSX.

If you want a longer warranty, get the TSX.

If you want a car unlike a million others, get the TSX.

If you want a smaller car, get the TSX.

If you want slower depreciation, get the TSX.

If you want a car built in Japan, get the TSX.

Forget the ex's -- they don't count.

You're gonna pay about the same for a 6 Cyl. Accord or a TSX.

So, what do you want?

Thanks for the photos -- they clearly show the differences in styling.

That was my deciding factor as well...
I looked at the rear end and :'(
I test drove a V6 accord sedan and was
then I looked at the rear end again and :'(

Since you're considering 05 Accord, why not the 05 TSX? It has what you list as the 2 negatives (XM and heated mirrors.)

BigWillieStyle, who can't wait to get his!!!

Buying a car should ALWAYS be primarily an emotional decision. Prudence only gets you a 1999 Toyota Corolla. Guts gets you a TSX.

You forgot to mention how much better the TSX drives. And I have found the quality to be higher in the TSX. My mom has a 04 EX-L Accord and I have a TSX. I think its nice. But really really like the way the tsx drives better. Even opening the sunroof shade I notice the accords doesn't feel as high in quality (I feel like it is going to come right off).

The '05 model has heated mirrors and electronic passenger seat.

You can negotiate on the TSX price and get about $1-2 K off. XM is only about $40 to install.

Besides the TSX, look into Lexus for great reliability, looks and performance. Less MPG, though.

The TL is also nice, but costs even more.

I would disagree, I think the TSX is more of a 'chick magnet' car then the Accord. The accord just comes of as boring and sensible..

I have been over this again and again trying to settle on a new car. The Accord is better in one area, acceleration. Period. The TSX is so far superior in every other aspect. I thought a coupe would look OK with a slight drop, nice 18s and possibly some hid projectors retrofitted into some aftermarket housings but then it seems too ricey. Go with the TSX

One thing to consider with the 05 Accord is that you can get the EX-L 4 cyl with NAV. If you want NAV and can get by the looks there's not a whole lot of diff between the two cars. Other than a nicer ride in the TSX, you get a slightly larger cabin (although for the life of me I can't figure out why the EX cabin is 5 cu ft smaller than LX), 100lbs less weight (meaning the accelaration will be similar, even with 40HP deficit) and milage that should be quite better (someone on Edmunds claims to have gotten 40+MPG).

Vsa???

You all forgot one thing, TSX comes with Vehicle Stability Assist STANDARD, while this feature is not available on the Accord.

I have both 04 accord coupe and TSX.

Unless it is all a price decision, $199 accord LX lease is a great deal for
a very good car, the TSX is far better. Above the LX is into TSX price
territory.

Just drive both back to back to sense the subjective differences, they are
significant. What is more competent, what feels better to you? Subjective.

These are some keypoints to me to favor the TSX.

TSX
200 hp vs 160 accord, 4 cyl
5 speed auto with sport shift, real functional, not like BMW.
HID headlights
styling
driver's position, TSX fits like a glove
quieter
ride and handling
exclusivity, resale value
paint quality, accord is orangepeeled
sound system
VSA
17" wheels
