too expesnive for tint?

I have read thru the posting on tint and got a qutoe for F1 Pinnacle in So Cal for $380. Other members seems to be paying about $300ish for the job? Is it too much?

I paid $180 for the same thing. Granted this is east coast, and I've heard Cali shops charge outrageous prices for tinting. For me, so many shops around here will do it for less than 200 that I just look for a reputable shop with a warranty on the service and get it done there.

eek, thanks for the info. I guess I'll go another shop that charges 160 for titanium based. From what I see, it may ruin my AM reception but I don't listen to AM anyhow.

I paid $300 for 3M Color Stable (35% all around). Supposedly it's their better quality film which employs carbon as opposed to metal or dye.

That's what I got...but for $250. It provides much better optical clarity, won't harden and flake over time, etc. It's basically the best there is.

I could have paid $120 as well, and got dyed vinyl. It's all relative, man...I didn't feel it was about expensive for expensive's sake, I thought it was more about total quality.

Got the titanium tint based done and only very minor interference with the FM radio, none with XM (as far as I can tell). It looks awesome.

No idea why you guys are paying so much for tinting. Sure, they try to convince you that they're giving you the BEST tint there is....carbon this carbon that. But in the end, you're getting ripped off by paying 300ish. I paid $120 for the "top of the line" carbon tint, with lifetime warranty. Any bubbles, any dots, any problems at all, I take it back and he re-does it @ no charge whatsoever. It's all about finding the right place to do it and make sure you get lifetime warranty.

Super Autobacs or any of those "franchise" places charge you up the ass for sub-par work compared to a private shop. It's like taking your car to the Dealership for a simple oil change when your private shop can do the same thing at less than half the price. But wait, you're getting a "genuine" Honda filter.

I just got mine tinted about 2 days ago. $160 for 15% all around, and $15 for an eyebrow on the windshield. This is in Florida though. At least the people on the west coast get their cars a lot cheaper, so in the end I suppose it averages out.

my dealer does it for $15, with a free car wash and vacuum. private shops cost 20-25 for just the change

That's basically my quesiton when I first researched about tinting. whether paying for the brand name film is worth it. The guy that did it for me guranteed the job for lifetime and has been in business for 28 years so I thought it was pretty safe.

One shop wanted to charge around 400 for ceramic film, which I thought was too high. In the end, $160 was a good price for the job, but I want to let other memebers know that the titanium based film (which the guy said he used) does interfere with the FM reception minmally. I can only tell if I listen really carefully. If I were to do the tinting all over again, I would choose the same thing.

Being in Cali probably means higher price for tint though....

Wow, which dealer? So Cal I think the price is 30 and I think that's pretty reasonable for a dealer.

1) You should let our fellow TexanZine folks know which dealer this is. (Most likely you got this deal attached to your car purchase. Therefore, I highly doubt it if anyone else here will get the same deal if their vehicle was not purchased there.)

*Here in Southern California, a simple oil change is $30-35, and what they call a car wash consists of a sponge and a hose.

2) Private shops in my area charge $12-20. Learn to clip coupons from the PennySaver and the oil change can cost you $9.95.

In any case, my examples were just in "general." Of course, there are exceptions.

You made the right choice of going with the $160 deal. If that ceramic film is really that much better like they were telling you, it's still not worth it. There's nothing better than getting a cheaper deal and knowing you still have the lifetime warranty. Just make sure the tint doesn't look obviously ugly and you're safe.

Got a quote today in Atlanta... $349 which includes them taking apart the doors to put on moleskin and pinnacle ceramic tint.

He said it would be cheaper to get dyed tint, but I didn't ask how much...

Anyone in Atlanta got tint on the TSX?

dealership is Gunn in SA. there is definitely a difference in metal and ceramic tint when it comes to heat in the car. friend's TL is metal from dealership, mine is ceramic. the heat difference after a long texas day in the car is night and day. worth the money on hot days, which is about 70% in texas.

I got mine for $120 cuz my whole family goes to him. From what he has recently told me, his prices have gone up $10 because of higher material costs. So I'd say $130-$140 max.

I sent my buddy to him for his new 2006 Honda Civic SI and he was charged $120.

This might not apply to all tints, but in the case of Formula One (Llumars high-end brand) their ceramic tint (Pinnacle) has better heat rejection than their best metal tint (Ultimate). http://www.formulaone.com has the exact numbers, they are not a big difference. But the point is Ceramics can do just a good a job at heat rejection than metals, with no electromagnetic interference.
