Stop HIDs from flashing when locking door

I read the manual, and it says with the Door Lock Acknowledge on, the car will beep and flash external lights if you press the lock button twice. At night, if I leave my HIDs on, it flashes the HIDs too. Of course, I don't want it to do that because it's not good for the HIDs. I could just turn off my nights but I like how they light up when I unlock the door. Very bright and cool. Any ideas on how to have the best of both worlds?? Also, just to make sure, the first press on the lock button locks all the door AND turn on security. The second press is just to confirm the security is set. Right?

HID = High Intensity Discharge

It's a term used to describe what are typically xenon gas filled bulbs that are bright enough to light up close to near daylight conditions.

And to answer ninjamyst's question, no, there is no way. However, since you have an 06, just go into your MID settings and change the settings for the lights to something other than the standard 15 seconds.

MID = multi-information display

You have an 04. It didn't come equipped with the MID.

maybe I didn't explain clearly. I want the HIDs to stay on for 15secs or whatever when I leave my car. However, what I don't want is for the HIDs to flash when I press the lock button twice on the key fob. I am only worried about flashing the HIDs too much but I guess if it's built-into the car, it shouldn't be too bad right?

Then just stick around the 15 seconds, wait for the lights to go off, and then lock your car.

As the system is set up now, there is not way to do it. I think it would take some tampering with the security system and that's not an area most people want to mess around with.

I will just turn my lights off then. I just thought this was a common issue but I guess no one really worry about the HIDs flashing. Thanks

Oh I agree with you Ninjamyst. I don't like the fact that the lights flash off/on like that again....it's kinda silly - and probably not too good for the light....and I definitely agree with you how cool it looks with the lights on like that at night when you unlock the door.

I wish Acura would have just included that little "beep" with the one push instead of having to push the remote twice to "confirm". Maybe they'll do away with that feature in their next round.

The only way around it is to lock your doors with the power lock switch, or the drivers door lock knob and then close the drivres door. The doors will lock, the alarm will arm, and there will be no blinking of the outside lights.

On my 06 it does. If I press the lock button once, it just flashes the parking lights. If I press it twice, it flashes the parking lights (twice) and the piezo buzzer sounds on the second press.

Same here.
The HID's don't flash at all, just the parking lights (2006 model year).

My HIDs do flash, but only if I leave the headlights on when I get out of the car and hit the lock button. All the lights will turn off and right back on and stay on for whatever interval I set in the MID.

I think the OP is wondering if you can do this without having the headlights turn off and back on like that; rapid on/off operation isn't good for HID lights.

I have an O4 and it does have the MID. The O4 TL's were the first Acuras to "show case" this feature.

But then you wouldn't know if the alarm is set or not. If you accidently hit the trunk release button on your fob, for example, the alarm might not arm. I once got into my car in the morning, and it told me my trunk was open. I was surprised, and still wonder if the alarm had even been set (or doors been locked). And no, I didn't hit the trunk release button...I hold the fob in my hand as I leave the house

Not to split hairs, but you can have Xenon gas filled bulbs that are not HIDs.

i dont think you read the initial post, the HIDs are flashing for him because he leaves his lights in the "on" position, therefore, they flash when you lock the doors. he wants to know if there's a way to avoid it, without shutting the lights off, because it's bad for the HIDs to be cycling on and off unneccessarily.

Agreed; it's more than just the bulbs that make up a true HID system.

Like LSIII said, use the power door lock switch on the driver's armrest before you close the door. This will enable you to lock the car, arm the security system, and prevent the HIDs from flashing.

thats so weird

down under in aus, our euros would beep + the indicators will all flash three times when i press the lock button once

and when i turn it on, the inidcators come one once but a tad longer than a second

i guess different places have different features incorporated into em

i read this a while back but u guys dont have automatic locking of the doors once you start moving ey?

ours lock the moment we step on the brakes when we either change it from park to drive or when we brake to slow down

As always, US gets screwed on cool features . I want DRL!! And that auto lock sounds good too as a safety feature.

This may not answer you question but my

Even though this auto-on/off headlight feature is incorporated into the vehicle, I advise against using it.

I may be wrong, but only because when a vehicle is initially started and later also when shut off, a small voltage spike occurs from the alternator, thus causing possible long term damage to the balasts and or other lights in the car.

My basic rule that I alwaus used....Car on, Lights on. Lights off, Car off.

DRL sucks...but if you want it, I've seen generic DRL kits at pep boys...it turns on your highbeams at half power or something....

As for the auto lock, it sounds better than kptechnologies module. Thank goodness my university forced me to learn electronics...I'll just build my own module to duplicate the aus auto-lock hehe...it'll work for MT's I believe...yay

Perhaps you should do what I did. Mount a motion sensing flood light to light up your driveway. Then you won't have to leave your HID's on to see your keys or to get into your place. The flood lights will give you that and also some added security for your TSX and residence.

I want the "low windshield wiper fluid" alert that the Canadians get!

I sooooo do not understand why Honda deactivates this in their US cars !!!!!

Just press the lock button on the drivers door as you leave the car so the car is locked when you shut the door and you don't have to use the remote lock and make the lights go off. Make sense?
