Reliable Brake Pads and Reasonable install price
Hey guys, I have a few questions about brake pad changes
It's time for my 06 to change pads (at 35000 miles), and of course the dealer is charging me 350 dollars (lol) to change just rear pads.
Being in college campus, i cannot do any job on my own. I tried to remove bumper and change fog light HID bulbs last week (which i did occasionaly at home with garagr and proper jack), and i figured it was dangerous to do it, especially the parking floor isn't flat and the only tool i have is factory jack.
Since i am soon going back to stock, I am looking to buy just OEM or a reasonable pads from tirerack. What models/pads do you recommand? (again, i am going towards OEM and reasonable price than performance and expensive price).
Also, there are numerous brake shops here in Ann Arbor, MI but i don't know how much they would usually charge for pad changes.
how much is a reasonable price for pad changes?
Thanks guys!

Brake jobs are like oil changes. Most shops do not charge the "book time" for brake services, but some do. Dealers will charge you book rate, but most brake shops usually charge a flat rate, which ranges between $100 to $150. Most shops will not install new brake pads without resurfacing or replacing the rotors due to comebacks.
Akebono ProACT pads are a good choice from TireRack, but most premium pads will work just fine if you are not concerned about braking performance. As an alternative, I've also used Raybestos Advanced Technology ceramic pads and NAPA Adaptive One pads with good results.

^^I switched from Axxis Ultimates to Akebono ProACT pads. Could not be happier. Great for everyday use (smooth, no noise, little dust) and still stops on a dime.

It's too bad you couldn't find a place to do it. The rear brake pads on a TSX are about as easy a brake job as you're going to find. And no need to spend big money. Do a search here and I'm sure you'll find some very reasonably priced pads with high marks.
