Radar Detector In VA??

I am going on a trip this weekend and will be driving threw VA. I think I will be driving threw the entire state (about 6 hours). I know radar detectors are illegal their, but should I still use it???
Can the cops tell if I am using it? Do any of you VA residents use radar regularly?

Thanks for the info

Just tuck it away while in VA and follow someone that is going at the speed you want to go - they'll be plenty of them. You're taking chances if you plan to use it.
Once you get south of Fredericksburg you can cruise at 75-80 pretty safely.

supposingly the popo have detectors that detect radar detectors...

http://www.escortstore.com/radar-detector-faq.htm

U.S. non-commercial drivers should not be concerned at all unless you drive in Virginia or Washington DC. If you do drive in either of those places, are a commercial driver, or drive in Canada, please note that while all of our current detectors are immune to the VG-2 radar detector detector (RDD), there is a newer RDD named Spectre II that was able to detect all brands of detectors in a recent speedzones.com test.

Only state troopers have them, and I've never seen anyone that got caught w/ a detector detector. IMO just be reasonable and you'll be ok.

Normally I take it and put it away but I finally bought a good detector and wanted to use it the entire trip so I wanted to see others do.

Radar is illegal in VA, but they understand that people own radar detectors outside the state. They don't expect you to throw it out the window. Just turn it off/unplug it while you're in VA. You'll be fine.

Edit: Yes, state troopers can tell if you're using radar.

HAH, they are not that nice. VA police will give crap to students here at school who don't have front license plates (like my roommate from TN) because its required here. They want the $$, I wouldn't assume a cop will be nice.

interesting subject, a good radar detector is usually VG2 immune VG2 is what they use to detect radar detectors. do any of you VA residents know if such a radar detector can be detected?

definately, happens all the time, but usually doesn't end up w/ a ticket. VA is by far the strictest state to drive in, front plate required, 65 max speed limit, only state that bans radar detectors, 50 front, 35 rear tinting.

While I was at school in VA a Fairfax County Officer pulled me over and gave me a ticket for my detector (didn't make me give it up though). I think if you live in VA, they might take the detector (I've heard stories from people who have lost theirs). I had FL plates, so they at least allowed me to keep it. Also, btw my detector had the VG2 undetectable feature. Can't remember what brand it was...

Note: the officer knew I was going to school in the area. VA state troopers probably handle the situation a bit differently. If you are driving on 81, be careful as there's ussually quite a few troopers out there. 95 isn't bad and there are ussually some cars moving pretty quickly.

officers cannot take your radar detector away, they can however put it right next to their car and turn up their signal to fry the electronics in your detector however.

you are on the money my friend..got 3 tickets all together 2 for lic. plate and 1 for the tint already...im scared to lower my car even more b/c I got a ticket in Fairfax for being to low in my civic..
Then that same day I was parked in a garage Police did there daily police check...and they stopped when I was gettin into my car..and said, that car better be gettin towed or im going to wait untill you leave this garage and arrest you for driving a illegal veh. im like and he said i heard you when you where coming in here.. So I said i will tell my friend when he comes out..So i went back into the mall...waited 20 min. ran back out and got oout of there..just a lil story to tell how strict VA is..

I'm not saying they're nice (trust me, I know they're not). I'm just saying turn the detector off. That way you won't get hassled about it.
