Question about the starter on the Tsx

I've noticed that the Tsx doesn't sound or start as fast as typical Honda cars I've had in the past. I'm glad it doesn't have that same start sound that is typical Honda, but it seems to not start as quick or seems to like starting slow. Does anyone know what car brand battery Acura put in our Tsx's? I'm thinking does the quickness of the starter have any correlation to the size of the car battery?

well, it starts slow bc the engine has a high compression. add to that , premium fuel and you got a slow starter. its perfectly normal.

yeah i have a 97' grand caravan and did have a 93 camry v-6, both v-6s. the tsx is my family's first l4, and the slow start-up took me by suprise. i thought maybe it was because it was a 4-cyl, or honda just made their engines start up like that. it was seriously cold outside, like 3 degrees F, and it took more than ever. i live in chicago, and maybe i think its just the very cold.

Yep ... this is exactly it ... we did have a good discussion on this a while back.

Anyone ever tried to start a high compression 4-stroke motorcycle or ATV?

My RSX has a Panasonic battery also so I guess thats what they are useing in the TSX. By the way....as I was sitting outside at a coffee shop in Monterey Ca. a lovely black TSX went by and parked up the street. As I am thinking about selling my RSX and getting one I had to walk up the street and check it out. Dang....they are soooooooooooo nice! It had plate frames from Marin Acura......was it any of you guys?.....:-).

Same concept ... those are lower compression engines ... in the case of the Accord I4 it is the K24 just like the TSX, but lower compression version.

when i start mine... i turn the key to the 2nd position and wait for that sound of something charging up and after that goes off then i start it and it starts pretty quick. Hope that helps.

strange.... I don't think it starts slow at all!

And I too live in Chicago and even when my car has been parked outside during the extreme cold recently for 8-10 hours when I'm at work, as soon as I'm off, it starts no differently than it does when I have it parked at my garage at home.

Maybe I'm used to cars starting like that? I'm not quite sure if my other cars qualify as high compression engines but nevertheless, I don't think the starter on the TSX is slow at all. A few quick cranks and the motor fires right up even during the recent midwest freeze.

I do have Mobil-1 0W40 synthetic oil in there since about a month ago. Maybe this is making a difference?

Reminds me...I should start up the car. Been sitting in the garage for a while with this dreaded Midwestern winter weather. I miss my car.

Agent_Chen, I swear you (assuming that pic is you) look like someone I know or have seen. I don't know how since you're in Missouri and I hit up Naptown, but the resemblance is uncanny.

Whatever the reason, it's good for the car. You dont want the car starting immediately because oil pressure is low. A couple cranks helps pre-charge the oil pressure, saving the lives of your hydraulic lifters over time.

I've heard that the McLaren F1 has a program in it that requires 12 full revolutions of the crank before the fuel system engages for that very reason.

Hydraulic lifters??? Are you talking about the TSX? There is no such thing on the TSX engine.
