Is this normal? RPM

When staring the car after it sat overnight, my rpm seems to be at the 1.5 mark. After it reaches normal temperature at a stop light it drops down to below 1. I have not really paid attention to this before so I want to know if this is ok. I searched, but I did not get any result using "RPM".

Thanks.

My car does this every morning. I am pretty sure it is just the engine warming up.

Talking Must be...

First car? ....I believe gas cars have been doing that since they added the fourth wheel to them, whether manual choke, automatic choke, or computer chip..

enjoy it!!!

unfortunately you can't search on terms with only 3 charachters.

Actually, attaching a * to any 3 letter search term will allow you to search it.

Exclamation

Pretty much anything with an engine built in the last 40 years(or more?!) does the same thing(not just cars)

One of the many reasons for this is to decrease the thickness of oil to bring it to the optimum lubrication level. Remember, the thicker the oil, the harder for the pistons to work.

My warranty will be run out in 3 months - just a little paranoid I guess.

That's why I love this site - lots of knowledgeable (sp?) people.

This is normal. I wait until the rpm does a rather quick 200rpm or so drop from 1400-1500 rpm to about 1200-1300 rpm before I put her into drive. In freezing temps, this may take a 1.5 min or so.

Normal. I think even my '65 Beetle did this, but back then it was a mechanical choke that did the work. Every car I've had since does the same thing.
