New Tsx

I've had my tsx for a few weeks now and i was just wondering when should i receive my first oil change?
the owner's manual says follow the oil life on the dashboard but my friends tell me change at about 1500? and how many miles is it about to break-in the car? and i'm getting some crappy mileage on the car, did you guy's have that problem when you were breaking in your cars?

-Thanks in advance

first of all, this is the wrong place to post your thread. you can post it in Acura TSX Discussion.

second, welcome to AZine.

third, you should do your first oil change @ about 3,000-5,000 miles depending on how much and what conditions you drive like. Then you should do an oil-change every 5,000 miles with Mobil 1 Synthetic Blend.

usually, break-in times should be until 700-900 miles. for my TSX, after 800 miles I redlined like no other.

lastly, you probably aren't getting crappy gas mileage because it all depends on where and how you drive. if you drive in the city, you will tend to get about 240-270 miles on a full tank. if you do mostly highway, then you might reach up into 350+ miles.

good luck.

I'd say wait until 3-5k miles because Acura uses a break in oil. You need that oil to work. A good synthetic every 5k is good from there on. From what I've seen in the forum here, most people have gotten better gas mileage after the break-in period. Give it some time.

And welcome to AZ

I don't believe their break in oil is any different than what they sell. Don't forget, they use moly-lube in assembly and that ends up in the oil. So the oil they put in at the factory also has to have more stabilizers because moly has a tendency to break down faster. This has been discussed many times around here.

In either case, leaving it in for your recommended amount of miles is spot on. I changed over to synthetic at 3k miles and no have 66k miles with a regular interval change at 5k miles.

You should follow the maintenace minder and not what your friends tell you. If your friends jumped off a building would you jump too? Ahhh, nevermind, I digress. Your manual also should tell you to take it easy for 600 miles. If you want more information on break-in then do a search, there is a particularly useful thread posted by Clutch_Performer on that topic. You're probably getting crappy mileage due to: a) your car being new, b) your driving style, or c) the type of driving you do (most likely a combination of all 3). You should see your mileage improve after break-in and then again once you reach 8K-12K miles.

The manual is your friend. A quick search will turn up a ton of info on this topic.
