You paid with a check? or credit card? If it's a check, has it been cashed? If not, cancel the check. It might cost you 40 bucks, but better than 2K.
Outside of that, if they are not giving you the money back, that is probably your next step, seeking a lawyer, especially if there is nothing in writing.

You're probably better off asking them to match the other dealership's deal. Once you give a deposit, it means you're buying the car.

You paid a $2,000 deposit for what? I paid a $500 "car locator" fee for the dealer to locate the car I wanted, with the full (and written) understanding that the $500 was not refundable under any circumstances, unless they didn't find the car I wanted. But we agreed on the price of the car beforehand and this $500 was deducted from the agreed-upon price. So tell us what this deposit was for and why you want a refund?

Ouch...how much better of a deal are we talking about here?

Unless the manager of the dealer has a change of heart, I assume there's nothing you can do to back out of the deal and get your $2000 back. A written contract (which is essentially what this is) has more teeth than an oral agreement. Basically, it's your word against his...

that sux man...sorry.

Am I the only one not entirely surprised by this after yesterdays thread?

I10O0I1, you seemed rushed to buy yesterday and now your paying for it. How much of a better deal did you find?

you can get your money back. I got my deposit back from a dealer with little problems.

If you have no agreement, then you can just say that you do not agree with the price. Also I believe that there is a law saying that if you put down a deposit and get an APR you do not like, they are obligated to return your deposit.

Hope that helps.

I have to assume stuff like this happens all the time. I believe this and don't think it's BS....

A 17 year old trying to buy a $27K car is a dangerous thing. This is why I asked a parent to come with him...

Just tell them you next call will be to your lawyer if they don't give you the deposit back. We can send Domn to break their legs if you like, Domn does this as a hobby....

Maybe DEVO meant that not too many 17-yr olds can drop $2K in cash...

I paid for my car in cash, but that may not have been the smartest thing to do since now I have to wait a little while longer to save up so I can buy my house in the spring

Bezelbutt, you can definitely get your money back. The deposit just holds it for you. There is no legal binding to buy the car at that point. It is usually very simple to get your oney back, sometimes they get a little upset, but who cares, car salesmen are the lowest scum out there, I don't mind screwing them at all.

Just consult a lawyer and then show up at the dealership with the lawyer. That should show them that you're serious enough to take this all the way if necessary.

It means that if you were Tony Soprano, and asked for your deposit back, they'd *RUN* to give it to you

Or if you went into the dealership with Tony Soprano, they'd jump all over themselves to return your money.
